PAUL GEE's PHOTO COLLECTION (Part 1)

Camion Stew:
Being a newbie to the site I’m still catching up on this and many excellent threads, might well take months! You have quite the collection of transport media Dean, and at the risk of placing you as some sort of wedding reception DJ taking requests, do you happen to have the LDD of Van Mannen (the red and white outfit not Koel Transporte) that Lllewellyn wrote? Gives some very familiar insight into European work in the 80’s and some nice shots of their Dafs. Loaded in their yard at Barneveld many years ago - decent outfit now defunct. Superb effort mate, thank you, great reading.

Chris & Phillip Small DAF from Porsmouth. Dont think we have had one of these on before.

Lee Line Recovery AEC wrecker. Not sure where they are based ?

Robsons of Carlisle DAF.

ARC. When this pic was taken it was the old and the new motors.

This pic will bring back some memories to anyone who shipped out through Poole,as it shows the lifting bridge which i have
known to be in the raised postion for over an hour in the summer. Many drivers have missed the ferry due to the bridge being
raised for so long.

T.J.Reed Fiat. Pretty sure this is the same company that we had pics of a Mack & White on before.

Thomas Allen ERF tanker parked next to a LPG DAF in Poole lorry park. On the left is a John Weaver Leyland who did machinery
removals and was based in Poole.

Christian Salvesen Ford D series. Cant say i remember them running little Fords always remember them us having a large fleet
of Mercedes.

Great pic of Doman’s Spanish Dodge. They use to operate some Macks also. All the fruit and veg use to come up from Spain
in these old trailers and then in the 80’s fridges seemed to arrive overnight !

Furbers were from Whixall, I think their scrapyard was cleared a while ago though?

Pete.

Olloquiegui Renault heading for Truckline ferries at Poole.

Olloquiegui still going Dean. Long pedigree in mainly dry freight. Website - olloquiegui.eu/

I must admit “Camion Stew” i thought they had packed up as i have not seen one for years. They were a large concern and used to
see loads of them through Poole. Will check that website out later.

That Van Mannen LDD you are talking about i scanned about 6/7 years ago i reckon. Its buried in the computer somewhere, will find it
and pop it on later as off out now.

Nice article about Van Maanen Dean, cheers

One of the older established firms in Holland (started in 1930), however, at the 20th of September 2013 they went into bankruptcy. I worked with 2 lads that used to work for Van Maanen, they jumped ship before it went down, one the reasons apparently was that there were more managers than drivers at some point, so the overhead costs were quite high…

There’s a book about Van Maanen ( it’s in Dutch) that covers the early beginnings of the firm and stops when they were at the top of their game, they even did M/E stuff too back in the day!

Here’s the link for whoever might be interested : uitgeverijwillemvermeulen.n … transport/

edit; I’ve got some pic’s of wagons in their yard, taken by yours truly back in the early noughties, I will see if I can dig them up.

Pete.

Morning Dean,
As Pete says Furbers packed up a few years ago at Whixhall but also operated out of the old Rubery Owen site at Press Heath Nr Whitchurch.
That Scania is actually a 93-280 as it started life as a waggon and drag on an Argos home delivery contract ran by Exel Logistsics, its first year was spent running out of Nottingham before being transferred to Penkridge, I took this vehicle on its first run when at Penkridge to do the Kings Cross changeover!

Hi Dean
Interesting article about livestock transport, my Dad was on the RHA National Livestock Committee back in the day.

Nice to see Mr Garood in the article. They built livestock bodies under the name of Newark Containers, interesting to read he expected a lifespan of 15 years on average for a container. We had two, the first one was bought brand new in 1970 and over the years was on a Super Comet, two Clydesdales and eventually a Freighter. it was being used by a Northumberland farmer in 2010 and still had the original door. floor, deck bars and rear gates.

Hi Dean
Thanks for posting the article on Banbury Market. A lot of the predictions came true, there are now very few markets and not so many livestock hauliers left. Ironically Banbury Market did not survive, often used to load sheep out of there on a Thursday. Oldhams gave up livestock a long time ago, but I believe Cutlers are still trading.
Cheers
