Hi Dean.
The Volvo 8-legger,NWF - North Western Farmers, big concern based in Nantwich Cheshire.
Thanks for the info Chris.
Retired Old ■■■■:
“windrush”]The sackloaders were fairly common at one time, I remember one company having them fitted to all their lorries but the drivers rarely used them as most of their work was loading bags from mills where they came down a shute.
Pete.
My old firm had one fitted to the rear of a Bedford S-type flatbed and driven by PTO. The reason for it was two-fold- Those were the days when many combine harvesters still dumped the (HEAVY!) bags of grain onto the ground and it saved the wages of one man when loading. It was also useful for loading bags of apples and pears, again from ground level. They worked really well, the only downside being that timing by the loader was critical as if the driver wasn’t ready to catch the bag on his back, the thing would shoot the bag halfway down the vehicle bed, causing substantial foul language and recriminations!
Thanks for the info “ROF” bit before my time chap !

Anyone recognise the Volvo ■■?
Evans Transport yard.
Evening gents. Sounds like most of these have been answered apart from the FL10 at the top,
looks like an ex Pattern Bros motor from Ilminster, they had a few of these.
NWF also got a place at Atherington nr South Milton.
Take it the shot of the Evans yard is the old Barnstable depot so lm guessing most of the shots of the
North Devon trucks were possibly taken on the 361 link road ?
Thanks for the comments Nigel.
I think you are right about the pics being taken on the A361.
I could not remember the name but i think you are spot on with that Volvo being an ex Patten motor. Funny enough this
cracking pic of one of their AEC’s arrived this week in the latest batch of pics. No doubt Graham will confirm if thats a
genuine AEC sleeper cab or a conversion ?

No family connection as far as I know. Richard and his brother carried on their Father Georges cattle haulage business in Rackenford since they left school
Thanks for the comment “TIDDERSON”

"DEANB"Back in 1957 a new beast of a truck was built by Atkinson Trucks called the Omega for operation in the oil fields of the Middle East.
Amazingly only 5 were ever built !
That’s a fine selection you’ve put together there, Dean, thank you!
I thought so Chris, bearing in mind thats one of the rarest trucks ever built here but i can think of a couple even rarer ones.

Olloquiegui still going Dean. Long pedigree in mainly dry freight. Website - olloquiegui.eu/
Being a newbie to the site I’m still catching up on this and many excellent threads, might well take months! You have quite the collection of transport media Dean, and at the risk of placing you as some sort of wedding reception DJ taking requests, do you happen to have the LDD of Van Mannen (the red and white outfit not Koel Transporte) that Lllewellyn wrote? Gives some very familiar insight into European work in the 80’s and some nice shots of their Dafs. Loaded in their yard at Barneveld many years ago - decent outfit now defunct. Superb effort mate, thank you, great reading.
I must admit “Camion Stew” i thought they had packed up as i have not seen one for years. They were a large concern and used to
see loads of them through Poole. Will check that website out later.
That Van Mannen LDD you are talking about i scanned about 6/7 years ago i reckon. Its buried in the computer somewhere, will find it
and pop it on later as off out now.

That is immaculate and what a class website. Paul
They certainly run very smart trucks.
