Hi Robthedog,
I have just logged in to correct the above, Rod Collett is one of my drivers  I just hope I have not paid Rod Collard! Cheer’s Pete

My first collection point this morning was Sharpness Dock,
snapped these old girls whilst waiting to load, day off for the shutters.
Good job the MOT expiry dates have put off for a bit,
plenty to do on these to get them through test.

Thanks for the Sellers and Kent pics Dean,
Sellars and Kent always had Gardners fitted and must have bought a Foden with a ■■■■■■■■ the driver told my Dad that was the end of the line for Gardners as it cut over 30 minutes off the time from Peak District to Wolverhampton!

Morning Pete,

Out of intrest what were the engine sizes re the gardner / ■■■■■■■ ? That’s alot of time to save !

Hi Dean,
The Gardners would have been 180’s in Foden S80’s, I’m presuming the ■■■■■■■ would have been L10’s? This was early 1980’s, it was a hard road from off the Peak’s in to the Black Country, still is in my opinion!

Thanks for the info Pete !

This clipping from 1965 states that this was possibly the first 32 ton artic running on 5 axles. Does anyone know what year the law
changed and you could run on 4 axles at 32 tons ?

Anyone recognise the Brennan Volvo tipper ■■?

Dean, Daltons have now ceased trading but they were from Southampton think the main man died and the firm with it, they used to do a lot of work to Scotland from AC Delco in the Docks IIRC, cheers Buzzer.

Evening all, thanks Dean for the comments on the 3 shunters, your right, there probably is a lot worse around and these still are all working trucks so I’m told.
As for Parsons, well I know the firm pretty well, or did back in the 80’s and 90’s, their yards nots 5 mile from where I’m based now and I spent a lot of hours there back when I was about 8 up till I was about 20.
My father used to help there on weekends rebuilding engines etc before they had a workshop, he knew Mr Parsons son in law who was the boss of the haulage side of the firm from an old place they’d worked together at back when my father was an apprentice on the spanners, Mr Parsons mainly dealt with the farm. I can remember spending many cold weekends handing over tolls and spares trying to see what was what and getting oil bound in the process, didn’t do me any harm as I was soon helping out most weekends and some of my school holidays which lead on to working ther full time when I left school as my father went self employed a few years before and was in there workshop full time and it was full time, got to take my hat to man Mr Hoskins ( the son in law), he certainly made the firm grow in the matter of 10 to 15 years. I can remember him having a pretty much all British built fleet for some time with an odd Bison and Clydale on quarry work for ECC which in time got replaced with a Freiter and some Constructors, had a Lynx, a TM and 2 B series on general which soon expended to several Freiters, C series’s, and artic E series, Roadtrains and not to long after came a couple second hand Volvos, a F12 and F16, then stopped messing about and got 3 new 143’s, still kept in with ERF and bought some EC’s but then came the Merc’s, and then some version 1’s and on and on it went. I left there in about 95 and have lost track with it all, obviously most of the old drivers have moved on or retired and they had some really good blokes (there not saying they haven’t now) still see plenty of motors around just don’t recognise many of the drivers.
Mr H died must be back in the late 90’s so fair play to the rest of the family’s members and staff for keeping the company going.
Had some good times and learnt a lot whilst I was there, didn’t give it thought at the time, always to dam busy, just like many on here have said before " I wished I’d kept my camera with me"

Hi Dean ,H Miles were from Malvern ,but also had a depot at Ledbury they did a lot of steel and tinplate out of south Wales with a lot going to Metal Box Worcester ,i think they became part of the Nuttal group ,regards Keith

Morning Dean,
Henry Venables is a very old timber supply company based in Stafford, looks like the pic is taken in Stafford town centre.
The Lynx tractor units would be for 24 ton train weight hence the Albion hub reduction axle and the Buffalo would be for 32 ton and would have the heavier Maudsley design? axle, both would have had the headless wonder engine fitted, Cheer’s Pete
