Hi Dean,
The Irish Daf removal artic belongs to Oman moving and storage from Kildare…they took over a very well known and established company from Dublin Beverly Smyth…in all fairness very modern thinking company and very well turned out trucks…I think someone in the company had something to do with another well known company from Cork Nat Ross who were part of Eurovan.

Regards Mark

Thanks for the info Mark, cant say i have heard of them before chap.

I remember Beverly Smyth being feature in an ‘Irish Special’ edition of Comical Motor c.1977. Strangely, I later knew a chap called Beverly Smyth (he actually changed his name) but he wasn’t Irish and told me that there was no connection

Thanks for posting the above Dean, eager to read it I was but began to wonder how remote the author was n’er mind the places he was writing about. Geography a bit off and main hauliers of that area and time don’t get a mention.

Norton (Harry Norton, as I recall) was based in Cleveleys, near Fleetwood. Amongst other work, they did traction work for B+I Line and their unaccompanied trailers from Eire. The monochrome photo doesn’t show it, but the rather mixed fleet was painted bright orange, as you can see from this picture from Chris Richards’ fantastic collection of his own photos:

Ray Smyth:
The Oldham ERF on page 382 was from Oldham Batteries at Denton, Manchester.
Their company advertising saying was " I TOLD ` EM…OLDHAM ". I believe their
former factory site is now full of modern houses. Ray.

Or, to put it another way, “What’s the best way to 'old 'em?”

Similar to, “how far can you Irlam?”

Hi Dean, not been about for a while but this post rattled the old cells.
David Snook runs out of a farm just South of Tadly, below Reading.
Was big in grain and animal feeds but now think downsized and general haulage.
A real gentleman to deal with. Harvey

Morning Dean,
I have noticed that Mark had taken some photo’s on the M54, the below 2 images are of the same vehicle and taken a mile apart, the first one by Mark and the second by Roger.
Roger is standing on junction 4 and Mark on junction 5, both eastbound, Cheer’s Pete

Hi Dean, You mentioned Beverly Smyth in reply to comments from Chris, I recall not long ago, seeing dark green Smyth lorries
very often, don’t know whether they are from Ireland or Northern Ireland. are there any pictures of their lorries on Trucknet ?
My surname is Smyth, and my ancestry 2 generations back is on my paternal side from Newry in Co. Down, right on the border.
Having done just a few journeys to Northern Ireland, I noticed that my name is pronounced Smith, particularly in Co. Down
and Co. Antrim.
Cheers, Ray.
