Hi Dean,
Bournes of Poynton are from Shrewsbury and still operate ERF’s, always have been very well turned out motor’s. The trailer is a Tamplin, usually carry spuds and discharge with a conveyor belt. There is a Bernard Corbett ERF following, usually a chinese 6 with a trailer on hay/straw haulage.
Gills Transport based at Four Ashes Nr Wolverhampton, they have recently just called it a day and auctioned the fleet off just a couple of months ago. Cheer’s Pete
PS. The pic of the ERF was taken on the A5 at Weston Park.

Morning Dean, the current colour scheme was introduced about 1977 / 78, it is very similar to the old Iberia airline livery and I suspect that’s where the idea came from. The chassis paint colour hasn’t changed at all to the present day, Ayres red, the old BRS colour.

The AEC Gazette article photograph with the AEC Mandator centre stage, that is the prototype Mandator V8, that Turners had.

The Guy Big J is one with the AEC AV505 engine, before anyone asks the question “was it a Gardner 240?”

I remember when Turners ran these Graham, and Austins and BMC units out of Norwich.

The Tom Hughes Daf is probably me but cant be sure. Lovely truck at the time and this is the second of the 3 Dafs we had from about the mid seventies. The first was a 2200 and then two 2800. we also had a Transcontinental, a Spanish Dodge and a Bedford TM, we had an ex Valley Carriers Guy Big J for shunting in BP.

I regularly subbed traffic out of Liverpool and the Wirral to Hodnet in the mid-to-late 1980s - I think the chap that ran it was called Gary?
