Hi Dean.
Swains Transport are still going as far as I know.Their main depot was Strood but they had a depot in Manchester.
I liked the article about night trunking, did over 8 years on nights. Link Transport from Hull I remember very well as they used to drop wet fish into fish and chip shop doorways overnight, seen them in West Midlands regularly.
Yes i saw one of Swains recently Chris so definately still going. Posted an article about them earlier in the thread.
I enjoyed that old article about Link Transport chap, there are some cracking articles in the old magazines.

H & N Bounds are from Tidenham Chase on the B4228 between Chepstow and St. Briavels…Always well turned out, yellow & blue were there livery but like most firms now having white cabs with stickers…Straight talking Nigel Bounds is the main man. Salt of the earth, calls a spade a spade. Great bloke…

Anyone know where Slims Transport’s ERF is from ■■?
Slims Transport were from the Bristol area. He used to haul blocks and beams from Wick and Wickwar for RMC, hence the colours. The guys name was John - cracking sense of humour, nice bloke and a little overweight!

Thanks for the info “Piston broke” . “a little overweight”

Hi Dean and Mark.
Just a few minutes ago I was watching Scott Andrews heading into Wembley down the M40/A40 on his vlog.
Just past the old Hoover factory in Perivale you also pass Vanguards building. It showed signs advertising Vanguard self storage. Looks as if they are in a different business now.
In the photo behind the Foden is one of their Mercedes 307/308s. Those machinery boys worked long hours back in the day.
Hi Paul,
The Vanguard self storage building you are talking about on the A40 heading in to central London …just before the Hanger Lane juction for the North Circular I believe still belongs to the Pickfords removal operation of today which is now privately owned.
When the Pickfords operation was broken up and sold a few years ago …Pickfords Industrial and heavy haulage was sold along with the Vanguard name to Ainscough industrial.
That building of Vanguard on the A40 is well known for having certain vehicles placed on the roof…the last time I past it about three weeks ago there was an helicopter on the roof
.
Regards Mark
Hi Mark.
You certainly know your facts about Pickfords and the changes over the years.
Watching Scott making a delivery just off the hanger lane girotary system was strange. As you mentioned the north circular is one of the exits and took me back to my days at Henley’s
of Wembley just a few minutes from there.
Thanks for your reply.
Regards Paul
Thanks for the comments Mark and Paul, good tuff chaps. The articles were intresting.
