A E Evans who I worked for never carried acids like RTS so I don’t know much about Runcorn Transport Services,I think they finished up in the TDG group, had a big fleet at one time.Their original livery was dark green similar to Leather’s Chemicals of Bradford.
I am shocked Chris you dont know about a tanker company !

Hi DEAN
I worked for Thompson Brothers Setchy Kings Lynn no photos about 1985 and Albert Dents Hilgay, We used to call regularly into Machins warehouses Spalding and Holbeach Lincs. Lockwood’s distribution had taken over the contract for Smedleys Little Sutton and Wisbech plants and this had an impact on Machins.
1995 Lockwoods had lost the contract to Applied Distribution who were shareholders in HL Foods who owned Smedleys. Applied distribution had their main contract as Sainsbury distribution Maidstone and Long gone Campbells Kings Lynn. Applied Distribution was bought out by Tibbett and Britain 1998.
A couple of Machins drivers started up their own companies namely Jack Garn, Garns Transport Spalding and Jim Welch of Fowler Welch.
Other companies in the area that are still going strong, Turners, Gee Bee Transport Kings Lynn, Salters Wisbech, Knowles Wisbech, Waymans Sutton Bridge, Bretts Guyhurn and of course Ken Thomas Guyhurn.
Regards KevThanks Kev,great post and pics chap ! I will have a look and see what i have on some of those companies !

Hi Ramone.I asked a friend of mine about that same Marathon and he told me that Leathers ran in that livery for a while. They did run dark green Scanias near the end. Here’s another photo of another of their Marathons that Paul took. When I was on market work late 60s I had an ex Leathers MK5 Mandator AKU 384B but it didn’t last long after being double shifted at Leathers and on market job as well. It was a very fast machine………….

Hi DEAN Cracking information about Albert Dents Hilgay. The following photos Peter Carters Shouldham. KGB Tilney St Lawrence and GeeBee Transport to name a few had taken Albert Dents work over when they closed down. Also photo of AEC taken in the 1920s at Setchy oil field. Older drivers would have seen the remnants of the nodding oil pumps off the A10 Between Kings Lynn and Downham Market up to early 1970s.
Cheers Kev

I remember in the very early '70s a neighbour was driving for Leathers and he had a V8 Mandator but not for long he then had a 110 Scania in the days when they took their motors home.In around 1974 he took the plunge and bought his first motor a Saviem . I thought at the time Leathers had gone and thats why he’d gone on his own , apparently not

Leathers ran eight V8s according to Graham Edge’s great little book,I think one was preserved. Ah,the days when you took the wagon home.
