I dont think the Marathon is a Leathers Chemicals , the trailer certainly looks ex Leathers but I think Leathers had gone by 78 (T reg Marathon ) and didn`t they run Scanias in dark green near the end.

Hi Ramone.I asked a friend of mine about that same Marathon and he told me that Leathers ran in that livery for a while. They did run dark green Scanias near the end. Here’s another photo of another of their Marathons that Paul took. When I was on market work late 60s I had an ex Leathers MK5 Mandator AKU 384B but it didn’t last long after being double shifted at Leathers and on market job as well. It was a very fast machine…………. :lol
They also ran Mercs and MK5 Mammoth Majors. Not my photos………………

Thanks for confirming that Chris and for the cracking pics.  Thanks for your comment “ramone”

Wonderful set of photos today Dean… Hope Mark wasn’t standing in the middle of the road when these trucks came round the corner!.. This is a great picture, with the driver clearly visible, I’m always intrigued as to who they are and if there still around. Thanks for sharing them with us.

I can answer this question!!,the driver is Mike Stanley and I know this because he’s my Dad!,he drove for Farralls for over 40 years and I spent so many school holidays in that lorry,he’s only retired from driving lorries in the last few years,it’s the second pic of one of his old lorries you’ve pictured so far,I’m only up to page 220 something so far,you pictured a 1418 Merc of Farralls that he had for a short while too, thanks for all you’ve posted Dean, you also posted a Commercial Motor from 1976 which has my Dad in it when he was learning to drive an Artic in a Atki Viewline, cheers Dean you’re a star.

You mentioned that you drove for Albert Dents from Hilgay “kevmorrow”, so this may bring back some
memories chap !

Hi DEAN Cracking information about Albert Dents Hilgay. The following photos Peter Carters Shouldham. KGB Tilney St Lawrence and GeeBee Transport to name a few had taken Albert Dents work over when they closed down. Also photo of AEC taken in the 1920s at Setchy oil field. Older drivers would have seen the remnants of the nodding oil pumps off the A10 Between Kings Lynn and Downham Market up to early 1970s.
Cheers Kev

Glad you liked that Kev,thanks for the info and pics chap.

I remember in the very early '70s a neighbour was driving for Leathers and he had a V8 Mandator but not for long he then had a 110 Scania in the days when they took their motors home.In around 1974 he took the plunge and bought his first motor a Saviem . I thought at the time Leathers had gone and thats why he’d gone on his own , apparently not

Leathers ran eight V8s according to Graham Edge’s great little book,I think one was preserved. Ah,the days when you took the wagon home.

Thanks for the input “ramone” and “Chris Webb”
