Morning Dean,
The Foden was one of Joseph Holloways from Valencia Wharf, Oldbury, West Midlands. Holloways sold it to John Holland who swapped the body for a low sided insulated body to work out of A.R.C quarry at Rowley Regis he then sold it to Robert Todd Haulage from Rowley Regis and I drove it for a year, it ended up on site work in Worcester when finished there I presume she was cut up. Pic showing her in service with Rob Todd. Rolls 265 and fuller 9 speed with Foden back end, Cheer’s Pete ps. I always wondered why there was holes in the sun roof, it was that bloody air horn, always leaked in over the weekend!

Happy days Pete, always nice when a driver sees one of his old motors. Thanks for the name and info and pic chap, the airhorn/sunroof
made me laugh !

Heres a few we have popped on before !

Doing the day job, sorry!

The answer to the original question of which was the top power option in the Borderer, was the turbocharged RR 280. However, only a small number were actually built. Heavier weight Atkinsons were built with the 290 and 335 ■■■■■■■■ but not the Borderer. The Mines Rescue motor is a special heavy duty build, plated at 42T, and not a standard Borderer.

IS the photo in the Atkinson rr280 brochure a 280RR as it has no air intake up the back like the 240G or 250■■■■■■■ had or the wider front grill with the bumper bar brackets in the grill for
the crash bar? like the mines rescue has.
or did the 280rr not get the extra cooling and larger air filter

The wider grille on the Mk.2 cab was fitted to Borderers and/or Venturers fitted with the 240 Gardner, 280 Rolls and 290 and 335 ■■■■■■■

In fact, here’s one of the rare RR280 machines captured by Mr Gee himself:

A03861p.JPG

Always something new on here. Did the Scammell with the LAD cab sell in any great numbers ? I don’t think I ever saw one.
If the "blurb " is correct about them being quiet because the engine is out the back and it seams to be saying it had cross cab access, it would have been a ■■■■ sight better than my LAD cabbed Albion Chieftain !!
Regards. John.

The Scammell/LAD had a Gardner 150 6HLX mounted horozontally ‘bus fashion’ behind the cab. Not many were produced, Shell had one for certain.

Pete.

Thanks Pete, another " seemed like a good idea at the time " job that didn’t take off then.

Regards John.
