Morning Dean,
A good pic of Len Cranes Fowler traction engine, this was new in 1928 to John Thompson boiler makers from Bilston Staffs. It was used with another traction engine to deliver the boilers and spent the last few years of its working life as a yard crane retiring in the late 60’s, they used to chain to rear of the engine down so it would lift more!
Sadly Len Passed away in 2015, that is Len in the 2nd pic, the engine is still owned by his family but I reckon if it was sold there is a good chance it would be converted in to a showmans engine. Len used an F88 first then a F10 which he fitted with a tag axle to move her around, Cheer’s Pete

Spot on with regard to the F10 Pete. We had a few pics of the F88 but just found one of the F10.

The F88.

Hi Dean, Further to my comments of the TV lorry series “The Brothers”, last night I was watching
“Who do you think you are” on BBC 1 from 8pm. Its subject was a comedienne called Katherine Gray
who I had never heard of. Her 8 times grandparents had connections with Newfoundland and Nova
Scotia in Canada, and Poole and Corfe Castle in your neck of the woods. They were connected with
the massive Codfish trade from Canada to the UK, and in particular to Poole. Vast amounts of Cod
were caught, spread out on enormous tables on the quayside to dry, then they were salted in order
to preserve them for their long voyage across the Atlantic Ocean, no fridges in them days.
There was a brief shot of “Barfleur” at Poole, and also a scene at the Bankes Arms in Corfe Castle,
which used to be called The Ship Inn. You may be able to watch it on Catch-Up TV or the BBC i player.
Regards, Ray.

Morning Dean,
Thank you for the pics of Len’s F10, he put the tag axle on it as that engine weighs 21 ton plus depending on how much water and coal is on board! The F10 is still about, last time I saw her it was down my mates yard with the Fowler and the Burrell showmans. Len also ran a haulage company, the yard was just off Burnt Tree Island in Tividale, he ran some sleeper cabbed Ford D Series rigids and a Volvo F6, they had the same livery as the Volvo units. If you can find any photo’s of those there will be a case of single malt on its way South!.

Saw registration which is a North Yorkshire reg, so this vehicle would have probably been from the Middlesbrough depot of Lion Tube company, not too sure how many other depots they had if any. Factory still at Middlesbrough although company is now part of the Van Leeuwen group.

I don’t know what GTI stood for, but they were from the Canterbury area - it looks like that pic might be New Dover Rd.
GTI trucks used to be parked at various places in and Canterbury, but I don’t think they’ve been around since the late '80’s.
I worked with a chap back in the 90’s who had worked for them - on general European tilt work.

Thanks for your recollections “kmills” cant remember if we have had one on before, will have to have a look.
