PAUL GEE's PHOTO COLLECTION (Part 1)

Thank you Dean, I though you had for got about me lately !!! :open_mouth:

phop:
K&M based at watnall rd hucknall Nottingham istr predominately bulk tipper operators

For some strange reason K&M painted our Sed Ak 400’s when they were new, Bradley Trucks at Clay Cross had supplied them, when we steamed them off for MOT most of the paint was on the floor! :open_mouth: I took them to Watnall test station for annual test and then popped around the corner to K&M’s place and they repainted them again!

Pete.

Great to see the PD archive shots - I do have this mag stored away somewhere, but I’d forgotten about it. The photo was taken on Leyland Road, Lower Penwortham, on the last lap before reaching Preston Dock. Here we have a PSK trailer (i.e. a flat with twistlocks), loaded with a ā€˜Lancashire Flat’, the forerunner of the flatrack. I suppose

These motors go back to the days of lightweight 5-axle artics, when you might just squeeze 32T onto 4 axles with the right tractor and trailer (42’ outer axle spread within 49’ overall length, wasn’t it?).

That was fine, but N.I.T. was a ship operator, and ran 20’ and 30’ containers and trailers as well as 40’, so space on the vessels was key. In order to get to 32T on 30’ trailers for more dense products, they needed to go to 5 axles, and also on a special build wheelbase of 12’6", as opposed to the catalogued options of 10’6" or 11’6". At that time, Atkinson 4x2 tractors were built to 9’6".

N.I.T. had at least a dozen of these Mk.1-cabbed ā€˜Rear Steer’ tractors, plus just two with the Mk.2 cab. If I’m really picky (and yes, I am :unamused: ) these are TRS3266XB with the 6LXB engine, not the 150. Pete knows that really

GCK 205G still exists, albeit in a sorry state:

as does one of the pair of Mk.2-cabbed Rear Steers:

And were a subsidiary of AAH, weren’t they?

I see that, these days, ā€˜Amalgamated Anthracite Holdings’ has managed to morph onto ā€˜All About Health’!

Good morning Dean,
Sorry W H Geer rings no bells with me.
There were the three of us at Princes and as we pooled commissions we all tended to go anyware and have our own customers all over the place, ( one face dos’nt fit all ), it worked well.
That big plastic cab, by the sea, maybe Osmoses killed them off, Ha !! Weaver, Dave Hedgeman, the mad Major etc to mame just a few were mine.
Great to see some of the old names, well done the three of you. Harvey

Another one, that 240 Gardner might know of.

That photo was taken outside the then new N.I.T. workshops at Preston Dock

1Regarding tankers anyone remember 1995 when every available tanker in the country went on the Yorkshire Water job
during the drought that year.

0The scene on the A672 Oldham Road adjacent to Boothwood Reservoir in 1995,

More details and pictures here on the Yorkshire Water Tankers 1995 thread

Yes indeed, my eldest lad earned a lot of money on that water job…I think it was Keilder to Yorkshireā€¦ā€œas many as you can lad, don’t worry about the tachoā€
Yorkshire Water learned a lesson that year, we’ve never had any water restrictions since, even this last hot summer. IIRC it’s underground pipeline now to keep the reservoirs at a reasonable level.

Chris Webb:
Morning Dean.
Going by the AY Leicester reg plate I’d go for one of F Sherwoods from - I think - Long Whatton near Loughborough.

Thanks for the possible name Chris.

Some from the dodgy mile away folder. Think we may struggle identifying these chaps ! :unamused:
Guy,possibly BRS ā– ā– ?

I reckon there’s too much writing on that door for a BRS motor Dean.

Leyland / Albion ā– ā– ?

With that long door I’d say Albion ……………….

Yeah you are probably right about too much writing on the door thinking about it Chris.

Chris Webb:
D E Appleton were from Formby Lancs I think Dean.Did a lot of sand haulage.

John Weaver still has a yard but not sure if he operates trucks any more to be honest. I havent seen one for
years with his name on. Dave Hedgeman and the mad Major dont ring a bell. Sounds like the mad Major was a

Morning Dean.
The two old fodens belonged to Corletts,Laxey Flour Mills in Isle of Man and both have been restored.
Here’s some photos I took of them together years ago in the Transport Museum at Jurby.

Morning Dean,
The mad Major was a fond expression for Mr Ian Rycroft in Poole and Dave Hedgeman ran out of Wool, evan ran a few small boats, think barges or dredgers.
Bought an N10 6x4 tractor with a ballest box that slid on to the fith wheel so as to use it as a tug. times like this you wish you took photo’s. Harvey

L1832p.JPG

Looks like the 86 (best selling 32tonner in 1972 in case you never knew [emoji16]) has a D1000 chrome bumper on it.

Marathon behind it is Wimpey , just make wording on roof out

I’ve asked this before but forgotten the answer , why did rigid 86’s have four headlights when the tractor units had two?
Thanks & Regards

That was well spotted ā€œnewmercmanā€  Another reason it was the biggest seller was its payload i
mentioned it before and thought it was about 23.5 tonnes. However found this advert and it was a staggering
24.7 tonnes !!! :open_mouth:
