Yes Mizzo,I remember Imperial Tankers doing the Bitmac crude benzene out of Seal Sands Storage when I did a bit for George bloomer in 1994.You loaded the product whilst on a weighbridge and Imperial had priority over us………………………
I didn’t realise Imperial were Bitmac’s hauliers after 2002. I had an E14 at the time and it was the best wagon I ever drove, even though it was 8 years old then.

DEANB:
We have had a lot of the A series ERF’s on here. I reckon alot of you will have driven one of these.

Yes thier was a Abernant driver based in Hay ,my father has a photo of his Atkinson 8 wheeler 427 ATG ,he later drove for Blueline . Abernant had drivers based nr Leominster also .
Geraint ,yes again one of the Hay drivers with Wm Morgan hauled a lot of wax up to Teeside docks for export ,the Lucas work went V J Morgan (Woodlands ) and they too hauled out of here to Germany and Portugal along with Owens . MT

H i Mt , the Abernant drivers in the Leominster area were probably based at Eardisland ,one of them was a former Bengrys driver from Kingsland ,themselves were steel hauliers .
remember Abernant on occasions loading at British Aluminium Resolven ,regards Keith

Hi KK ,thier was also a Abernant driver at Kington who later went on to drive for Blueline .
Blueline also had a driver at Dorstone ,he drove Atki artic MTX 809E ,MT

Chris Webb:
I think it says Brewster & Sons on the Routeman.
Anyone make the name out on the Seddon Atkinson. Associated ■■?

The Routeman is one of C Websters from Wirksworth Derbys. Dean.Dan or Pete know all about them.I hope.

The Seddon Atki is one of Associated Dairies, forerunner of Asda supermarkets.

Thanks for confirming the names Chris.

moomooland:
That’s an Associated Dairies Seddon Atkinson now known as ASDA.
The company was founded in 1949 when the supermarket owning Asquith family merged with the Associated Dairies company of Yorkshire.

Thanks for the comment and pic Paul.

Chris Webb:
Think it says H & E Transport on MAN.

I think it’s H and R Transport Dean, summat tells me they were from Holmfirth West Yorks.Glover Oils were based in Leeds I think.Hazy again, sorry. :unamused:

Cheers Chris.

Houses on Webster yard now at the back of the school playing field , a bit like middlepeak quarry now shut ,we went there from school if you were a genius you could of had a job there but it shut before I left school so I didn’t bother with any GCSEs

Sign of the times Dan loads of old haulage yards now been built on. :frowning:

newmercman:
Thanks to everyone who answered the question. I only posted it as a bit of fun as i saw an advert.
However one member was bang on ! “newmercman” was the clear winner with Volvo’s mighty F86 !
Recognition at last! It was an educated guess, nothing more.

Good guess chap.

newmercman:
I’m a little bit late to the A series party, but I drove one once, it had a 240 Gardner and a Fuller box. My regular lorry was a 95 Daf and the ERF was a local and yard shunter, I pulled away went to change up, came to a stop, put it back in 2nd, pulled away, when to change up, stopped, put it back in 2nd and crept down the yard. I later attempted to take it out solo to master the gearbox, but I just couldn’t get the poxy thing into any gear as soon as the wheels started turning. I had previous experience on a 6LXC with DB box, so I knew about the lazy characteristics of the Gardner, but that beast got the better of me.

HRS:
Dean,What can I say.    Went straight back to bed and it must have been the sobbing that eventually woke my wife and she comforted me.
Well done newmercman.
Like a few on here have said I thought 72 was a tad early for it to have been the mighty 86 so quite a shock eh!!.. Harvey

    To be fair Harvey its not easy to remember things like that.

Buzzer:
Dean the Volvo F88 was run by O/D Colin Cahalin who lived in Bursledon just along the road from me, cheers Buzzer

Thanks for the comments Pete. The photo was taken as the truck was heading out of Ferndown towards
Poole/Bournemouth. Pop a pic of one of your trucks on here chap !

Thank’s Dean, it could well be Alan then as Kevin quarry did have a job in that area for a while and backloaded china clay for the Potteries. There are pics of my ‘rides’ taken by me already on trucknet but it would be nice to think that someone else thought them worthy of photographing and pointed and clicked at them! Depends of course as to where the pics were taken, I didn’t travel the country like some lads on here!

You never know chap one may turn up.

cav551:
Looking at the brake plumbing diagram I notice the “spring valve” which was more commonly called an inverse valve, necessary when spring brakes were fitted to a tractor unit, in order to supply air to operate the trailer brakes in secondary and park. Nowadays this is incorporated into the hand control valve.Pete.

Thanks for your input Pete.

mizzo:
Really liked the ERF bit DeanB, my favourite motor, closely followed by Atki Borderers, here’s some ERF’s I’ve driven and yes that is me in front of the ‘A’ series.

Nice pics “mizzo” glad you liked that about the A series.

Anyway, another Bursledon man eh, Harvey
