PAUL GEE's PHOTO COLLECTION (Part 1)

I think it says Brewster & Sons on the Routeman.

Anyone make the name out on the Seddon Atkinson. Associated ■■?

The Routeman is one of C Websters from Wirksworth Derbys. Dean.Dan or Pete know all about them.I hope.

The Seddon Atki is one of Associated Dairies, forerunner of Asda supermarkets.

That’s an Associated Dairies Seddon Atkinson now known as ASDA.

The company was founded in 1949 when the supermarket owning Asquith family merged with the Associated Dairies company of Yorkshire.

Houses on Webster yard now at the back of the school playing field , a bit like middlepeak quarry now shut ,we went there from school if you were a genius you could of had a job there but it shut before I left school so I didn’t bother with any GCSEs

DEANB:
Thanks to everyone who answered the question. I only posted it as a bit of fun as i saw an advert.

Some intresting replies, and although i was only a kid i would have definately got it wrong and the
first one that came to mind was the Atkinson Borderer. I thought Bewicks Seddon 32/4 was a good
answer as they semmed to be loads of those around as well. Gingerfold also mentioned the Seddon.

The Mandator must have been a huge seller as it was the choice of Harvey, pete 359,m.a.n. rules,
Chris Webb, and Paul John also mentioned it. Maybe it was the second biggest seller !

240 Gardner,Stanfield and Dieseldog66 all mentioned different Leylands.

Does anyone have a phone number for “coomsey” If they do can they call him and make sure he
is alright !!! I think he may have stopped taking his medication and he may require medical help.
Sorry “coomsey” it was not the Ford D series me old mucker ! [emoji38] [emoji38]
(only joking mate ! )

Buzzer mentioned ERF,and i would imagaine that they would have been fairly high up the list, but
not the biggest seller.

Jelliot. Jeff mentioned loads of different makes and in amongst them mentioned the winner but
never gave a specific answer ! [emoji38] [emoji38]

However one member was bang on ! “newmercman” was the clear winner with Volvo’s mighty F86 ! [emoji38] [emoji38]

newmercman:
Best selling 32tonner in 1972, hmmm, that was around the time the foreign invasion really took off and the start of when the industrial relation problems caused supply problems in the British manufacturing industry. So I’m going to say the Volvo F86.

Harvey i am disappointed in you chap !! :unamused: [emoji38] [emoji38] [emoji38] [emoji38] [emoji38]

Recognition at last! It was an educated guess, nothing more.

I’m a little bit late to the A series party, but I drove one once, it had a 240 Gardner and a Fuller box. My regular lorry was a 95 Daf and the ERF was a local and yard shunter, I pulled away went to change up, came to a stop, put it back in 2nd, pulled away, when to change up, stopped, put it back in 2nd and crept down the yard. I later attempted to take it out solo to master the gearbox, but I just couldn’t get the poxy thing into any gear as soon as the wheels started turning. I had previous experience on a 6LXC with DB box, so I knew about the lazy characteristics of the Gardner, but that beast got the better of me.

Dean,What can I say.    Went straight back to bed and it must have been the sobbing that eventually woke my wife and she comforted me.
Well done newmercman.
Like a few on here have said I thought 72 was a tad early for it to have been the mighty 86 so quite a shock eh!!.. Harvey

Dean the Volvo F88 was run by O/D Colin Cahalin who lived in Bursledon just along the road from me, cheers Buzzer

I think that the Tilcon Haulmaster was from either Ballidon or Kevin quarries as it has the loading lamp on the cab roof that we fitted to them all in our workshop? A pity we don’t know where the pic was taken. Driver could well be Alan Astley (‘China Chicken’ on the CB) who lived at Tean, Staffs, and was based at Kevin quarry, he later became an OD when the fleet were being sold off and actually bought the Foden that I used to drive, C433 LHE.

I’m still waiting for a pic of one of my trucks to appear…I could be waiting a long while
Pete.

Thanks for the comments Pete. The photo was taken as the truck was heading out of Ferndown towards
Poole/Bournemouth. Pop a pic of one of your trucks on here chap !

Thank’s Dean, it could well be Alan then as Kevin quarry did have a job in that area for a while and backloaded china clay for the Potteries. There are pics of my ‘rides’ taken by me already on trucknet but it would be nice to think that someone else thought them worthy of photographing and pointed and clicked at them! Depends of course as to where the pics were taken, I didn’t travel the country like some lads on here!

Pete.

Looking at the brake plumbing diagram I notice the “spring valve” which was more commonly called an inverse valve, necessary when spring brakes were fitted to a tractor unit, in order to supply air to operate the trailer brakes in secondary and park. Nowadays this is incorporated into the hand control valve.

Morning,
It is amazing how a simple picture brings back so many memories, mainly getting all the colours right on the unit.
Remember having a right laugh when I cought him bolting on the green corner wind deflectors as if ther was’nt enough colours allready, ha!!
Did he work out of Ings Fordingbridge for a while ■■?
Anyway, another Bursledon man eh, Harvey

Some grand photos there Mizzo. Was the “A” Series ERF one of Harold Woods by any chance?

ERF , I had the EC12 Did me well the 4 years I ran it, The P Reg one on here looks like a Bitmac one from Scunthorpe.,Regards Larry.

I remember Bitmac Larry, their dedicated haulier was Barworth Haulage off East Common Lane Scunthorpe. A E Evans did a lot of work for Bitmac out of both Scunthorpe and Llanwern int 60s and 70s when I worked for them, and also in 1994 when I worked for George Bloomer Chesterfield.
This photo of an E14 is not mine, looks very much like a Peter Davies one,and it looks like Tamworth Services where they did a changeover.

It was indeed Mr Webb, MCX 678P, ■■■■■■■ 220 DB six speed, took some winding up but a flyer once moving, while I was there we became Tankfrieght, got made redundant in 1980.

Imperial Tankers took over Bitmac’s haulage around 2002, the unit I had drifted on to our fleet from the Bitmac contract, it was probably the best motor I drove in 40 years, loved it.
