Mark, they also bought out Thomas Pies of Merthyr Tydfil. The deal went sour and Stan set sons Stan JR and Peter up as Peters savory products.
Stan and Peter sold out to Grand Met, who nearly bankrupt the company and it was then bought back by a previous director of Peters.
Paul

Thanks for the info Paul.

Paul does an awful lot of work behind the scenes as some of the photos are in bad shape and he somehow manages to get them looking really good. I know he was editing for 8 hours yesterday. :unamused:

Have done it myself in the past Dean it’s a very time consuming job which takes ages scanning, downloading, restoring, cropping, editing, filing, then he will obviously have to send them over to you via emails and before you know it the day has gone. :open_mouth:

He’s done a great job though bringing back so many memories and sharing his pictures of motors most of us thought we would never see again

Dean I’m very greatfull for the work Paul and also yourself do to put these wonderfull pics and stories on this forum…long may it continue…many thanks.

Regards Mark

Blackpool Van Transport / John Marsh & Son Transport.

That article was very good Dean well worth a read in showing how how the late Peter Haworth ran his business back in 1964.
Peter had great foresight with some of his ideas like the advertising on the trailers, the early change over from Scammell couplings to 5th wheels and paying drivers an accident free bonus to name but a few.

It was the only 290 of the six Dennison’s in the fleet the other five were powered by 265 Rolls Royce engines.

Note the pair of Seddon Atkinson ‘401’ bumpers welded together it was later sold on to Blackpool Transport.

FNO 357T seen here in later life recovering a stricken tram on Blackpool seafront.

Owner of Blackpool Van Transport the late Peter Haworth alongside Atkinson Borderer Reg No HXG 442 at Midgeland Road Blackpool in June 1986 which was later sold on for preservation.

In 1996 after some 40 years building the firm up to what it was operating more than 38 tractor units and 100 trailers owner, the late Peter Haworth, finally decided that enough was enough and decided to voluntary liquidate John Marsh and BVT not only due to health problems but mainly due to contract customers holding back payment and the ever increasing running costs etc.

Sadly Peter Haworth passed away in May 2006 aged 79.
