I noticed there were no comments on this Seddon Atkinson. Is it only me that thinks the rear axle looks odd and it looks like
its running on larger wheels/tyres ■■? :unamused:

0

Hi Dean, could it have been a 16 tonner with a Granning mid lift fitted, They often fitted smaller wheels with the mid lift ■■? just a thought, Harvey

Coal lorry is definately an Austin FE 3 tonner, the Morris grille had seperate strips, a Willenhall cab and fitted with either the four cylinder 3.4 litre BMC diesel or the Austin 4 litre 6 cylinder petrol engine. Served my time repairing those. Oh and this “Before my time” lark doesn’t fool any of us Dean!

J.B.Wheaton Volvo FM12,another company that always seem to run tidy trucks. Are they still going ■■?

Anyone recognise the mighty 143 ■■?

I would say the 143 was an old Ralph Davies truck
JB Wheatons are still going strong

Thanks Rob for confirming that Wheaton’s are still going.I was not sure as i have not seen one for ages.

Its definately not a Ralph Davies ex motor unless it was a cancelled order. I know its his colours but the only G reg ones
he had were G99 XAD and G100 XAD.

Dean could it have been on a RDF plate then put back to correct year plate ? Just a thought

Hello Dean, you couldn’t make out the owner of this Crusader…well its Billy Downton from Bristol,he ran mostly ex BRS motors and were a rough and ready outfit but in latter times he purchased some new stuff…a bit of useless info is that he bought the only Bristol tractor unit not to be sold to BRS,it was Bristol Commercial Vehicles own and ran on trade plates and when it came up for disposal Billy bought it and registered it on a 1970 “H” plate. There were several Downtons in transport in Bristol but were not related to the major haulier in Gloucester.Cheers Bubbs,

I can remember Austin but think it was the slighly newer version that i can remember. I think it looked a bit
different ■■ Would that motor have been a 1960’s model ■■ “Before my time lark” :unamused:
Not too good on the stuff before the 70’s chap !

Hi Smallcoal, About 1989/90 I demonstrated an 8x4 Iveco semi auto tipper in that Quarry, Scow body with power up/down to prove a point that with the proper spec it could do road and quarry, people would pay good money to do that to day, wow, only the laundry man and I new how scarey that was. Lovely people to do buisness with I am sure. Harvey

Hello Harvey there is something odd about it. If you look the first axle and the middle axle are the same size
wheels, but that back axle definately has bigger wheels on it ■■?

Looks ARC colours to me, but you never know for sure, most of the front doors in my neck of the woods were NCB blue but certain they weren’t owned by them. The customized body could tell a tale or two I bet Dean

Hello Rob, Ralph had 3 x F reg ones the 2 x G regs ones and a H reg one that was a 500bhp and i am pretty sure
that was a centurion which was also the newer shape. Therefore it cant have been one of his from around that
period. He did buy some more later on but they were the streamline model.
However at that time he had a big bust up with Scania and bought 2 Volvo F12’s. I dont know but its very possible
that maybe he cancelled that Scania and bought the 2 Volvos as they were H regs so all around the same time !

We might as well have a few of his now.
