Burtons ERF. Do they still make wagon wheels ■■

They certainly do Dean along with Jammie Dodgers and Maryland Chocolate Cookies to name but a few.
Today Burtons employ over 2,000 people around the UK,in three main manufacturing facilities in Llantarnam, Edinburgh and Blackpool, a chocolate refinery in Moreton and a central distribution hub in Liverpool.

Burtons Atki 1.jpgBack in the 1970’s and 1980’s Burtons ran a large in house fleet of their own including Atkinson’s and ERF’s.
Also throughout the 1970’s and 1980’s John Marsh & Son (Blackpool) Ltd/Blackpool Van Transport had a contract with Burtons
out of their Blackpool plant.
Here’s a few BVT pictures courtesy of Chris Haworth.

Owner of Blackpool Van Transport the late Peter Haworth alongside Atkinson Borderer Reg No HXG 442 at Midgeland Road Blackpool in June 1986, HXG had just been sold on to Graham Morris for preservation.

They also ran six of these Dennison 4x2 tractor units.
Reg No CFR 723Y driven by Tommy Hussey above was powered by a 290 Rolls the only 290 of the six, the others being 265 Rolls.

They had a huge clay pipe production facility at Crow Edge near Holmfirth West Yokshire and used a lot of sub contractors vehicles in Hepworths yellow livery.
In 2013 fifty acres of their huge production site at Crow Edge was sold to wood processing and recycling company R. Plevin and Sons Ltd.

The company had offices and warehouses in Worcester, Leeds, Glasgow, Newtown, Bradford, Bristol, Droitwich, Lancaster and York.
Great Universal acquired Kay & Company Ltd in 1937 and continued to run the Kays catalogue as a separate title within the GUS holding company.
On the 23rd of February 2007 Kays original depot in Worcester closed as part of the work to amalgamate Kays and Littlewoods under the new brand name ‘Shop Direct’.

Lancaster & Kelly Dodge. Is that an Isle of Man registration ■■

Lancaster and Kelly were Isle of Man hauliers at one time, then I think they went into household removals with a yard in either Glen Vine or Crosby. I’ve not seen them around for ages though. Not my photo…

Eastern roadways Scania. Are they part of the P & O Group ■■?

Yes they were - see last week’s essay on P&O

Eastern Roadways International was based in Ruskington and seemed to be more about heavy haulage than anything else. In my bit of P&O (Pandoro) we didn’t have anything to do with them operationally.
