That is an interesting Borderer for the following reasons. I believed that Atkis ceased using the Kirkstall BDR axle in 1971when production of the BDR finished and it was superseded by the new D85 axle and, of course, Seddon who owned Atkinsons by this time foisted their poxy group axle onto Walton-le-Dale. maybe there was still a few BDR’s knocking about in the Stores as our first Borderer came in mid 71 with a BDR axle which had, for some reason, an odd higher ratio diff which made it a nice smooth easy runner. Maybe I’m a bit lost here and we should consult with our Atki expert Chris aka 240 Gardner, maybe could shed some light on the matter. Cheers Dennis.

The Wills Foden pulling the Embassy trailer was when all Imperial Tobacco Group companies ran in their own company trading names
Wills had several depots Bristol,Ipswich ,Spennymoor and East Kilbride
John Players were in Nottingham
This was my last lorry I drove for Stirlands pulling a Players trailer
I left Stirlands in 2003 and joined Players (Imperial Tobacco) as a yard Shunter
When the Tobacco advertising ban came in all the Imperial trailers were de logoed and painted plain maroon

Hi Chris 10 out of 10 mate well done on the spelling  john

I think all these long quotes are a real pain trawling through them all like those above

Its very easy to edit a quote down to the particular section you are referring to rather than post the whole thing over and over again.

I know several people who cant be bothered looking through this thread as it is taken up by so much repeated text on the pages.

Not referring to yourself Dean as you answer each one individually which is great.

I’m not sure how to edit a quote down,I know what you mean though. Can you explain so I can do it Paul?

Many Thanks for posting the Bowker Bros picture, it’s one I’ve not seen before…
My Grandfather founded Bowker Brothers in 1926.

Also Thanks to Pete Smith for the heads up

Hello Kate, glad you like the pic ! I dont know if there are any more pics in this batch but
there may be in future batches. Out of intrest is the company still going ■■ If its finished do you
know what year it packed up ■■?

Hiya…
The load on the lorry in the pic you posted was empty blackcurrant boxes, more likely on their way back from Tewkesbury cold store, where Beechams (Ribena) stored them… There’d be 80 empties per stack on that trailer and he’d have 14 stacks on, being a short trailer…
Bowker Bros was taken over by Peter G Bowker late 80s / early 90s ( I’d have to ask my brother the exact date, due to my shocking memory) and was run in his black/red colours until 1999/2000. The reason he kept it going (even if in name only) when it was all but finished, was because he (PGB) had promised his Mother that as long as she was alive, there would be a Bowker Brothers.
Peter was many things, but on this occasion he was true to his word.

Chris Webb:

Its really easy for example at the beginning of the quote below in the text writing box in your instance is

For example if you delete > ‘The Bulk Storage Foden artic would be from Paull,Hull. They did a lot of work for BP Chemicals out of Saltend Hull, mostly tankers.Looks like a load of BP drummed product ont trailer’.

All you will then get is

Chris Webb:
That Volvo F10 has got similar livery to ICI ?

Hope all that makes sense its really easy when you get the hang of it

P.S. Here’s a picture from Saltend.
