Gilbraith Tankers was taken over by Hargreaves, JohnYes Chris that’s right.
In May 2006 Hargreaves (Bulk Liquid Transport) Ltd acquired the business of Gilbraith Tankers Ltd for £2 million.
In November 2007 Hargreaves completed a £5 million deal to acquire Teesside-based Imperial Tankers.
In September 2014 Sutton Group acquired Imperial Tankers which by then was classed as the bulk chemical transport arm of Hargreaves,Originally Imperial Tankers, who were based in Billingham, was formed in 1989 after a management buy out of what were ICI’s road tanker operations.
All rather confusing i know. Here are a few pictures, courtesy of the late Peter Davison, showing some new additions to the fleet shortly after the take over by Hargreaves in 2006.

0I need to see the quack I think Paul, I forgot all about The Hargreaves Group in the equation who also bought Stiller (tanker division) for 6.3m in 2009 and added them to the group.
Cheers “Stanfield”

Hiya Dean, The episode with the Diff at ERF Middlewich reminded me of another “difference of opinion” I had with them at a later date regarding Chapman Superide seats-----v---- UOP Bostrom seats in the first B Series unit we bought in '77 ! Cheers Dennis.
Spill the beans then Dennis !

The container above is loaded with Mary Baker butterfly cakes destined for Fine Fare Supermarkets in Glasgow.
Later the container would be transferred to a rail wagon at a Freightliner terminal, completing the bulk of its journey by rail.
Superb set of photos today mate. Particularly like the Towmaster ERF as my uncle worked for them at their Sheerness Depot. I used to go with him on a Friday night as I didn’t have to get up for school the next morning! Many thanks again for posting the pics

Standard Brands go way back to 1929 when it was formed by J. P. Morgan.
They later bought Planters in 1960 followed by the Curtiss Candy Company in 1964 and in 1979 acquired Inver House Distillers Limited based in Aridrie.
In 1981 the company merged with Nabisco to form Nabisco Brands, Inc

The black Atki tanker is Meeks of Kirkby .
The tale of the drivers seats ! For some reason which I can only think was to save a few ££££ when ERF started building the “B” Series they changed from a Bostrom seat to a Chapman. All our “A” Series had all got the Bostrom finished in the green leatherette material which ERF used in the cabs. However, when they launched the “B” Series they used the Chapman Superide Now I had had a bellyful of Chapmans in the Atki Borderers and we fitted the new ones with Bostroms using a kit supplied by Atkis which was basically a pedestal which bolted to the floor and the seat bolted to the top plate perfect ! The secondhand ones I bought received the same treatment as the Chapman once it wore a bit was like sitting on a jelly, it wobbled all over the place.
So back to the first “B” Series we got in late '77 ! Our night driver who came off an “A” Series ( with Bostrom) was a fairly hefty Lad, not fat as such just big made and about 17/18 stone. The day man was fairly slim. So within about 5/6 months this Chapman seat was absolutely ■■■■■■ ! it was rolling and rattling about knackered ! So I arranged for it to run into Middlewhich one day and I was down as well in the car ! Well ERF’s couldn’t believe the state of it and I said I want a Bostrom fitted but they argued that it would have to be a new Chapman under warranty so that’s what they fitted there and then, but I told them I was far from happy and told them I would be back with the same problem ! Which we duly were about 4 or 5 months later! Well ERF started explaining that these Chapman seats had been tested to destruction with something like 26 stone weights so they couldn’t understand why we had two knackered seat mechanisms in less than 12 months and questioned the weight of our Night man ! So I told them I’ve had enough of this bollox I want a new Bostrom fitting ! well at first they tried to say they didn’t have one in stock so I said well I’m going to take this up with Peter Foden because it is unacceptable !! So the discussion got quite heated with ERF saying there’s nothing wrong with the Chapman and I was “look at the ■■■■■■■ thing its ■■■■■■ and after only a few months” ! So finally when they realised I was not going to have another Chapman one of them disappeared and 5 minutes later he came back carrying a brand new Bostrom, in ERF materiel in its poly wrapper !!! They fitted it and that was it never another problem for the 3 years we doubled shifted the unit. I think they must have changed back to Bostrom because the next “B” Series we bought a couple of years later, guess what, Bostrom drivers seat ! And thereafter that was all they fitted to the “C” Series as well ! And ,of course the Bostrom was standard fitting in both the Scanias and some of the Volvos also they used Issringhausen some times in the F10’s but IMHO nothing could beat the Bostrom ! Cheers Dennis.
