Trying to get out of the 'cuffs?

Don’t think I’ve ever seen a Granada coupe Dennis, I can’t even remember them back in the day tbh.

I obvs remember the Granada saloon and ‘The Sweeney’ type Consul…and the mk 2s

Can’t be many left, and if there are, I bet they are sure as hell worth a mint now.

It weighs just short of 3 tons SDU its a plug in hybrid and it gets me to work and back home each day on electric and i charge it overnight on cheap rate electric. The range is crap max 23 miles but colder weather it drops to around 19 miles.I never use the 4 pot petrol until weekend. If i put my foot hard down which i dont it does go abit but not what you’d expect from 390 bhp. They’ve been upgraded to 449 bhp but it’s more a case of pulling a big heavy car.A very smooth car with air suspension in electric mode but not for every taste.I want a diesel

They were a really classy looking motor Dennis and i bet that would be worth a fortune today .I bought a 320CLK as a stop gap a couple of years ago nowhere near as smart as that coupe of yours but i was impressed with the way it drove. It was 20 years old at the time and solid.I sold it to the young manager at my local and he’s still got it.I asked him if he was going to change it and he said no way he loves it

My sister has one, not electric, I’m not sure if it’s petrol or diesel. Hers is one of the last before production went to Pandaland. I was so impressed I decided I needed one. Couldn’t find one with a decent history so bought a Range Rover, just because I needed another car like a hole in the head.

The XC90s for the UK are still built in Sweden . They need to bring back the diesel and offer it in a plug in then they would have a very decent motor.I’m looking for a newer one but these dealers just take the you know what. They want big profits at both ends

After having various Volvos since 1972 in 1985 my Dad got a new 4 door Merc, think it was designated as 250D. It had a five pot diesel and auto box.
Lovely car to drive, fast but not super fast, engine was really smooth.
At eleven months old it was stolen, never to be seen again.
We heard through our insurance broker it did eventually turn up in Italy.

My son has early 245, as the older a car is, the fewer rules it has to comply with, ergo the more it can be hotrodded.
His car was stolen and abandoned a couple of hundred yards from his house. The thief couldn’t handle the manual 'box and didn’t know how to steer a car with a locked diff.

The 244/245s are getting rarer over here the 1 series even more so which is making even basket cases very expensive. The problem over here with them is rust which probably wont affect the Aussie ones.Oh for a late 164E or TE

Here in the UK we can swop engines between cars etc fairly easily. In other countries I believe they are much more strict about what is and isn’t allowed.

Emissions are still measured against the car’s year of first registration. You can’t stick an old (dirty) engine into a new chassis. However engine swops have been done for ages.

I have heard that in some countries you can only swop in an engine if it was specified when the vehicle got it’s Type Approval.

First Volvo Dad had was 164 Automatic. bought new in 1972 at Robson Everard who were the main dealers in Newcastle at the time. It was Volvo’s version of British Racing Green, lots of chrome and cream upholstery. Reg was CJR 164K.

Then had a couple of 264’s N reg and P reg and a SD1 Rover V8.
After the fateful Merc he had a couple of 960 estates, both diesel.

Harry Houdini had f—– all on me SDU  :fu:

It’s a complex formula as to what can and cant be done, using a sliding scale incorporating age, brakes, percentage of power and weight increas and other factors. To complicate matters further, what’s allowed in one state may be considered akin to mass murder in another. Volvo 2 series can legally be fitted with a 351 because the Volvo is stronger than and has better brakes than the Ford donor cars.

My son also has a VW Beetle, over sixty years old. He’s had to fit new aftermarket headlights, as the genuine items are made from unobtainium. He got pulled up by the law, because he also fitted non-compliant blinkers. He asked what Australian Design Rules does a 1961 Beetle have to comply with. The cop was speechless, our first ADR was 1968. As my boy pointed out, his non-compliant blinkers a safer than the no blinkers the car left the factory without.

There wasn’t many Granada Coupes about RR so someone of TN will stick a proper shot on to show you one ! The only problem I encountered was because of the sloping roofs the sun roof sometimes allowed a very small amount of rain in at a corner of the headlining but it had to really pishing down hard for that to happen !

I remember them were they all Ghias?

My brother had a 164 1970 with a 4 speed overdrive.Well past its best.My dad had a 1974 164E auto again it had seen better days.I always liked the look of the 264s but the V6 wasn’t a good engine apparently.I had one of the last mk1 960s and loved it.Smooth as silk and would give Oliver Reed a run for his money drinking wise

Dover docks.

I spy with my little eye:

A Swains of Stretton tilt with Volvo F10/12.

A Beresford tilt with an ERF B-series.

A Mazo fridge with an F8 MAN from Spain.

Two Christian Salvesen fridges with Merc NGs.

A TA fridge with a Renault Major from France.

Four Norbert Dentressangle trailers (one tanker and three boxes) with tractors including a Volvo N10 top-sleeper, an F10/12 Gobstopper and a unit with a Kysor air-con.

Who can fill in the rest?

They were popular in Germany in the 80’s. I had one for a while. It was fire engine red with a black vinyl roof. Tbf, most of the ones I saw were the same colour
