Past Present and in Between in Pictures (Part 2)

That’s an odd-looking trailer. Educate an ignoramus like me: what was its design and purpose?

Nice old pair, Buzzer

nmp

It was a configuration that appeared in 69/70 called a “tandem 4” which allowed two 6 ton single wheel axles giving a 12 ton bogie weight which allowed a 26 ton GVW.
Whereas a double wheel single axle could operate at 10 ton and only 24 GVW.
That trailer in the photo could carry, and did, an 18ton payload as opposed to about 16ton payload on the single axle trailers. Hope this explanation is helpful.

Yes, Rod Closs of Bulwell, an old mate from Midland Storage days, had one when he set up on his own and I went to work for him. I didn’t like it, we used it mainly on light but high loads, Metal Box out of Sutton or Mansfield and my impression looking back, is that it tended to roll more than traditional tandems

@les_sylphides That reminds me of an incident that occurred in the truck workshop when my son was doing his apprenticeship. The proprietor, a rather large fellow used one of the worker’s creeper to have a quick look under a truck. He told the owner of said creeper that he had borrowed it and that it had broken. Immediately, the owner retorted “Well, it’s not double rated.”

Ha ha , Benidorm.

Did you chop them in when you bought your first Atkis Dennis , what payload could you get on them ( legal or not )

I once saw two old ladies from Lancashire riding back to their hotel in Benidorm on one of those in the early hours .They looked ‘nicely’ to say the least :rofl::rofl:

Aha remember these, Buzzer

I’ve still got one of those stuck on the back of a clipboard :joy:

I remember that ^^ almost as worthless as the BS5750 stickers that were displayed at the time.

Aye,.whatever happened to all that cack, it was made such a big thing once over, pictures in the local paper of managers receiving it in a ceremony.:joy:
Usual type ‘‘all show’’ b/s with no real substance…a bit like dcpc.

Mr Punchards alive and kicking with a new motor

I like Benidorm, it’s cheap and lively.
