Earls at Darnall Sheffield i think. They still had a few old Mandators there when i delivered near their yard in the early mid 80s.I think they had an old Mercury too
You said that TIR plates are fixed to the trailer not the tractor unit ?.
I said I don’t buy it.
Bearing in mind the carnet includes the requirement for the vehicle registration number.
Which would generally mean the reg number of the tractor unit making up an artic outfit.
Obviously even with separate trailer reg numbers, even Italian operators still put the front plate on the unit not the front of the trailer.
Logically a recovery wagon, pulling a broken down artic outfit back home across Europe, would then become the relevant ‘vehicle registration’ for the carnet requiring the front plate attached to it.
McCormick still seems to be going maybe they can answer the question.
The odd thing about the F16s is that they were so nearly the perfect lorry. I drove lots of F10s and F12s. I loved the Gobstoppers and the driving position was really lovely. I much preferred the earlier ones because even though the 'box was synchro (not my favourite) it at least had a four-over-four arrangement. Later ones had that three-position 14-sp set-up which never sat well with me. Alas the potentially brilliant F16 had that silly gearshift pattern as standard. The best F-series unit I drove by far, was an F10 Globetrotter on an E plate, so late '80s then. That was a comfortable flyer.
The last F12 Globetrotter i drove had a 13 speed Fuller in it. Right up your street.
The Volvo FL10 had the nickname of the Wendy House due to the small cab layout to make taller drivers having to get out of the cab to get dressed in the morning, they were a pleasant to drive and pulled well.
Going off subject a tad, I quite liked the older model of the Renault Premium, once again a bit limited on cab space but the narrow cab made it ideal to access rural farm entrances and tight spots, another good puller.
I know one at least, and in the 3 years between 2000 and 2003 I can confirm that there were certainly no 3 hour lunches.
Same here, F16 for me.
AWM Leeds? If so we’ve just sent one or two of our ancient Renaults up there to be reanimated and put to use while you sort the Merc issue out.
deffo my kind of Gobstopper!
Agreed. I drove both.
Back in the day we ran an FL10 for mainly tipping and loading export trailers, very versatile little motor and quite light as well we used to call it our “Frederick Leonard” had 999 number plate as it always had to GEL on, Buzzer
