Hi ADE. Looks like William Bowkers Blackburn. William Bowker died last month aged 81 years. Links to the Transport Engineers article (obituary) transportengineer.org.uk/tra … 17/161056/
The motor looks similar to the one in the article but has storage point above windows?

Back with Maudslay marques, the last pic an indication of morphing into AEC, the UD reg County of Oxfordshire.

That shot of the E. Nelson 4 wheeler is interesting as it was shot in Vauxhalls Luton plant and by the looks of the Viva body shells in the background, it would be in the early 60’s. The motor have been delivering or had delivered a consignment of carburettors which were manufactured at a factory on Park rd. in Barrow-in-Furness and it was apparently a regular job of Nelsons. Before my time but I was reliably told about it but it was a job that was right in Brady’s and Athersmiths “back yard” so I’m not just sure how Nelsons came to be involved ! I think the factory closed in the 60’s and I can’t recall the name of the firm, maybe Leyland 680 will shed more light on it ! Cheers Bewick.

The Viva was made at Vauxhall’s Ellesmere Port plant from '63 onwards. Collected back loads a few times from Hooton for the Docks(Newport and Cardiff) also dealers on the South Coast.
Oily
Just had a look at the Viva history and the first one rolled off the line in June '63, the body shells may well have been pressed at Luton.

Not doubting that the Vivas were built at Ellesmere, which they were, but I know for a fact that Nelsons only delivered carburettors to Luton which weren’t necessarily for the Viva and that shot could quite well have been earlier than '63. Their main back traffic from the South was ex Cape Asbestos in Uxbridge. Plus that Maudsley looked like it was at the end of it’s career ! Cheers Bewick.

Douglas I think. Much older than any Airbus, but the Boeing company would have been a competitor at the time. The 40’s probably.

This one is for Robert as I know he is a big fan of these, cheers Buzzer.

check out the gearing on the their website , think its geared for about 45 mph max. I find these Tata’s and ashok leylands pretty interesting , 49 tonne with a 280 hp engine and a 9 speed box , would make a merc 1625 with a 16 speep zf look like a Ferrari.
