IIRC a 5 speed box plus overdrive (=6) you needed b loody long arms to throw the gear change from #5 all the way across in the general direction of the passenger seat and hope/pray you got #6, lucky dip if you got a result. But great single drive 8 wheelers.
The green and orange Guy invinsible was owned by Fletchers of Ibstock Leicestershire I think it had a gardner 6lw eaton 2 speed axle and a trailing axle

Fine bit of kit. That one looks as though it could be double drive, the ones we had were single drive.
A little story:- One of our drivers (Brian Judge) was a bit of a hot head and one day they gave him the Thorny with the Gardner in it and he wasn’t happy. He loaded it, jumped in to draw it from under the gantry, revved the nuts off it, dropped the clutch in ‘with vigor’. Did it do a half shaft ■■ not a bit of it, it shattered a road spring on the drive axle.
