Remember them Buzzer, we had a TM who left us to join them( company car may have had something to do with it from a Morris 1100 to Granada he was a nice guy), the depot I remember was on the A418 Thame/Aylesbury road at a place called Stone.

I remember the Sam Anderson wagons, all hours on the A6, mostly steel from Motherwell heading south and not unusual piggy backing going north, wasn’t aware they were still going, but hey, Inverness recently, with the livery not too far removed from the original…

Hi Oily,
I’m reminded of the old story of Jim Mckelvie returning home up the A74 in his car and being overtaken by one of Andersons. As soon as he got in he phoned Sam Anderson and told him. ‘He must have been doing over 80!’
‘Did you get his number?’ Sam asked?
‘Aye, I did’ and gave it to him.
‘I’ll sack him as soon as he comes in tomorrow.’ Said Sam.
‘Aye…well when you do, send him down to me - that’s the kind of man I’m after!’

Yes John, McKelvies, another outfit that “kept going” on the steel among other things, Jim McKelvie also created Ailsa Trucks, importer of Volvo, another involvement was Stonefield all terrain vehicles.

Thanks to kevmac47 for the pics your quote “runs like a sewing machine” takes me back to an old boy who was a wizard with engines, his summing up of a re-tune was " 'av got 'er ticking ower like an Ingersoll, aye even quieter".

Tilts were great until you found a load that didn’t fit. Now, I’m not sure which was worse: stripping the canopy off and dismantling the sides to accommodate an ungainly load, or trying to spoon the load under the canopy no matter what! Robert

Yes indeed! I seem to remember their motorway bridges were a bit on the low side. Perhaps he stuck to the back roads and followed the dykes! Robert

Hiya Leyland600, just out of interest are you going to be a 680 when you grow up?
Is the 207 like the 208? very ‘snug’ on the driver’s side in the footwell, but ‘loadsaroom’ on the passenger side?
Hi John, I have never really noticed any difference, mind you I always tend to be driving and rarely get a ride in the passenger seat. Its a great little machine to drive nearest I can get to an ERF with a 4LK Gardner but certainly a hell of a lot warmer especially when I was at Kirkby Stephen Rally last Easter… It may be looking for a new home shortly.
Cheers, Leyland 600.
