Good set of photos Oily did you not see any dolphins over the dyke. That layby with its pay to use toilets really upset one of my tour passengers en route to Orkney one time, being quite a wealthy ■■■■■■■■ farmer he was surprised and shocked to have to pay 20p to use the toilets there, this really spoiled his holiday and he moaned about it for the rest of the holiday. Its not only folk frae Aiberdeen thats tight !!!

That Scammell looks eager for work…“c’mon, put as much as you want on my back, it won’t worry me”
Look how close the second steer is to the front axle.

Hi GOM, Ihad many a ride in one of their Scammells, , The driver was called Rhodes and his knickname was Dusty, He whent on to drive for the BRS, And when I first started driving on long distance work I was delighted when I met him in Lawsons Café at Londonderry one night, He was a one of my Late Grandads mates, I felt on top of the world when he told the drivers present about the days when I used to go with him usually on a Sat. On local runs, Regards Larry.

Derby reg I see.It looks like a travellers motor in view of the wheel trims.
There was a co. called Lew-Ways in Brownhills on the A5 who made galvanised farm gates, standings etc.also wheelbarrows.I bought two barrows from them in the mid 60’s and scrapped mine in about 1995 so it didn’t do to bady as it only cost 50 bob and it did have a bit of work, not like builders though. They ran some Bedfords in that weight range and when they sold them they built new wooden Bodies for them which were varnished. They usually sold them to travelling lads who bought gates etc. and went round to farmers with them.I sold them a 400E Ford and one to a chap called Dennis Broardhurst from Rushall.I met him at Ashby cattle market in 1961 and he did the markets at Derby,Uttoxeter and Leek.He must have done o.k.as he kept his motors in good order and changed them after about 3 years. He bought a normal control Trader but finised up with a Nissan Cabstar. I don’t think Lew-Ways are going anymore but perhaps someone will correct me.
Some more talk about nowt so sorry

Thought they must have but they seemed a very busy co.I suppose they sold the gates etc to the travellers.Blue and yellow the motors I think. Dennis’s dad used to keep the Plough and Harrow near Muckley Corner.I think there were a lot of travellers round there.Am I right about the pub name ?
Tony
Great day out with lots of interesting cars too, including a few Jowett Javelins. I wanted to buy one of those in 1965. It was still in perfect Nick and the seller only wanted £10.00 for it. I only had £5.00 and dad wouldn’t spring for the other fiver. I wish I had it now…
