Thanks to servo88, rastone and kevmorrow for the pics
This pic of bridge sent to me by lurpak took me back to 1962, heading for Dorchester (Dorset) from Cowley and creeping under in the middle of the arch when coming the other way is a Spiers of Melksham AEC 8 legger desperately trying to stop, nearside front rubbing the kerb etc, well there was a gentle coming together, minor offside damage both wagons, not enough to stop us carrying on after disentangle, but a bit of explaining required back at the yard, anybody got a clue where it might be
Oily
Might it have been Salisbury you went through Oily, there was a low arch bridge on a bend there ?
That’s it Trev and it was the bend that caught the Spiers man with little time to react to me in the middle of the road.
Oily
Mix up of Kev andTrev apologies Trev now sorted.

Maybe Wilton (of carpet fame) near Salisbury and the bridge is still there, Buzzer.

Cheers for the pic Pete wondering how the ice block gets taken off the wagon and carried/sack barrow into the shop, two man job mebbe, but still awkward.

Edit…Google tells me porters with ice tongs(like the man on the wagon has) carried or dragged them.
Was walking Philadelphia yesterday when from behind I heard a very familiar sound - a Gardner engine! Shaking my head in disbelief I turned and suddenly remembered that they do operate a number of old, British double deckers as open top tour buses
Numbers have dwindled slightly as they’re eventually replaced but great to hear the sound all the same

Cheers for the pics Gardner 120, can’t help you with the deckers… wouldn’t want to suffer with the complaint the white van driver seems to have .

They don’t do so well out here; Chillie Willy and Mr Softee are the two main ice cream vendors …

There was a cattle dealer came into the old Derby Cattle Market and they brought two in with drags. They were painted grey.I think the company was Demulder but I don’t know if it was the same Demulder round the Nuneaton area as I think they had red motors.
But it was nearly 60yrs ago.
Cycling along in Attleborough in the summer of 1979 (on my paper round) a Demulder wagon went past me and the stench nearly knocked me off!
They were maroon as I recall and dealt in offal / dead animals
In those days, they had a bent, buckled and rickety piece of sheet steel over the top of their lorries - I looked into one once, it was like The Godfather i.e. a horse’s head …
I think the trailers are airtight these days; they need to be
