Past Present and in Between in Pictures (Part 1)

I got the pic’ out of a Truck mag’, so it semi-qualifies  . :unamused: :open_mouth: :stuck_out_tongue:

Nice

‘Got to get the load through’ . ‘BUT’, did he climb down & carry out a ‘Risk-assessment’ before he drove into this? :unamused: As I was told a while ago by a Manager (who has far less experience of driving than myself, & has never actually driven the type of Tanker I drive, in fact has never driven any type of Tanker), at the end of a 13 hour day, during which I had done all 15 drops & delivered a full-load, because I had done it ‘my way’ & not strictly followed procedure at 1 of the deliveries (was the tank filled? Yes! Was the customer happy? Yes! Any damage to vehicle/property? No!), I was told that I am ‘Old School’ & ‘old school doesn’t work any more’ :open_mouth: :unamused: :frowning: . Make of that what you will :unamused: . Regards Chris

The Wagon in the middle is a Henschel. Regards Chris

A name from Ballidons past, Jim Marsh. Is he still around, I never went to his yard (in fact I have never been to Longford!) but Tilcon bought various chassis/cabs from him to use around the quarry internally. Pete Bailey from Longford worked in the transport garage with me for a while and he usually went with the chargehand to sort suitable vehicles out, I seem to remember them saying that Mrs Marsh brought them tea in Crown Derby cups!

Pete.

Hi Tony, Could you tell me the date for Lupin Show Please,Cheers Pete

Now that, s what you call a snap Oily, Spot on.  , are you going to Ingliston truckfest,i was talking to the owner of Skeldons transport. He was sending 2 of his DAF,s there & what smart motor,s they are. A credit to the man who is a true gentleman and very obliging & i thank him for allowing me to take some snaps of his new wagon before it hit the road. Nothing was a problem to him, Regards Gordon.

Hi Gordon, No Truckfest for me, travelling on hold just now, waiting for cataracts ops, first one tomorrow ( one eye at a time). Hopefully heading south in Sept.

No he died a while ago now Pete, you’ve worked with his grandson though, Richard Leedham, as for the never been to Longford bit we’re very choosy who we open the gates to and let enter our village, Gavin has a life long passport for Longford as he worked here man & boy.

Hello Pete
Jim died a few years ago.I was a bit upset as his death wasn’t mentioned in our paper so I missed the funeral.I had a lot of dealings with Jim and a much missed and honest Trader. He was a chap who you don’t see the like nowadays.

Tony

Thank’s Tony and Rob, I guessed that he may be gone by now. Didn’t realise that ‘Birmingham City Council Depot’ Leedham was a relative though. Is Pete Bailey still around, he didn’t stop long at Ballidon (or anywhere else I believe!) but was a decent lad to work with. Watch out Rob as I might just divert through Longford when attending Brailsford Ploughing Match if it is close by so just tell me where I can pay my toll please, can’t imagine that anybody there really needs the cash though? Gavin was probably there long before most of the houses so can claim squatters rights.
