That Saviem would have made a wonderful meat pies delivery van during the mad-cow crisis with that registration number! Robert

Hi Kevmorrow , used to do a fair bit for that mob, mainly out of Con Base T/Pk when they had about 5/6 motors based there, a few yrs ago, looks like he must av had h/cube on or somert Brain Fade Maybe, Cheers Chris

Hi Chris. I have lived near Kings Lynn Norfolk for the last 30 years and now retired. I only worked out of the container base for short while driving for Priestners at the end of the mile road Flixton. We also used to haul out of Manchester Liners Trafford road, Early 1970s I worked for an Irish haulage company based Trafford park “Wiliames Transport Group” groupage but also moved containers from Williames containers Preston Docks. Mid 1970s worked at MIFT Trafford Park for MAT Transport at the Frieghtliner Terminal, the odd occasion we used the container base on Barton dock Road. Late 1970s worked for a few tanker firms, KRAFT HUMKO, Smith and Robinson. Cheers Kev

Oh crikey - just shows how an innocent remark (mine) can backfire! They were sad times: my brother lost his rare breed sheep through that. Robert

3 hours for a roadside engine swap :open_mouth: Couldn’t see that happening over here with our computerised/micro-chipped/supercalorfragelistic UFO’s we drive now  They tow you in nowadays if you got a blown headlight bulb :unamused: :open_mouth: Regards Chris

Tidderson posted a couple of pics on the last page of this thread of two Scanias belonging to John Shirlaw (who is the tender age of 79) coming of the IOW ferry, one of which brought over 10 cows for me this week. Coincidence that, here is the evidence, Buzzer.

Hi Chris correct Joe Manson, a few other bosses at Hull was Cliff Leader and Brian Perry who moved from Bowkers Blackburn late 1960s. Dave Clarke ran the workshop Garage. I started off with an Atkinson Borderer SYL212C and progressed to Scammell Crusader, Scania 110 then Volvo F86. gallery/image.php?album_id=342&image_id=1260

As if the driver didn’t have enough to worry about!

Hi Chris. I was a MAT UK only driver but remember being issued with the big alloy box and sign checklist and hand it in when you leave the company. It had a power cables to be fitted from the tractor unit socket to the lights and number plate board secured to the rear of the TILT trailer. Winding handle adapters for Spanish and French landing gear. Bulbs and universal lenses. Converters for palm couplings. Snow chains, Chains & Sylvester’s and much more. Do you remember the passenger seats were taken out to hold this monstrosity? After I left MATs I believe the alloy boxes had to be bolted to the cab floors as they were a health and safety issue. If we were on holiday we would leave the tractor unit at Hull for major service and have to haul the alloy box back to MIFT Trafford Park. This was ok if you got a lift home by a MAT driver otherwise a pain hauling it on and off the train! Kev
