Past Present and in Between in Pictures (Part 1)

On the subject of cattle floats, has anyone got any photos of Frans Butelar’s wagon and drags that ran out of Boston ?

Hey, times that the wagon brought you home as the driver fell asleep.

Thanks for that Mark  I remember Lathams at Ryton well, old man Latham was a gent, we (Progressive) used to fuel up there sometimes, Mr Latham was generous with the Green Shield stamps and a bar of chocolate for driver and mate, this from the kiosk out on the forecourt. One time I pulled up heading back from north with a few cars from Tile Hill, bottom decks only and Mr Latham said I need favour, I’ve a wagon(of a wagon and drag) in the yard with the top deck stuck, need to have the cars off to fix it, could I drop mine and nose up to the rear end and get them off, no problem and greatly appreciated. I so enjoyed them driving days and would have done it for nothing, but hey the rent needed paying and the family feeding.
I’ll copy and paste some of the above and post it on the Latham’s transporter thread.

Hi Kev, That Bristol Lodekka at the Chain Bridge Honeyfarm is an ex Bristol Omnibus Co (Bristol Tramways and Carriage Co Ltd) bus. FLF model.

Cheers Leyland 600

AS a 15-year old school leaver, I remember the day that the first of those Eastern Coachworks Lodekkas was delivered to the Gloucester depot. They seemed so modern compared to the old models with the front entry and strip lighting but I was a bit put out to discover that they still had the old Gardner 6LW under the bonnet!

Lawrence Dunbar:
This TL 11 Powered 6 legger has just arrived in the North East this morning at its new home at Seaton Burn, For a D reg its in very good condition & would go straight out to work, Regards Larry.0

Conod’s of Leominster are still running older ERF’s and a Leyland Marathon Larry, which are a lot older than the D reg. They have a lot of older wagons about their yards.
Cheers Dave.

Hi ROF, Re the Bristol Lodekka, Eastern Counties bus co in Cambridgeshire their Lodekka had 5LWs in them the thinking being “Flat Fens and 5 cylinders” most other Lodekkas had 6LW or Bristol’s own AVW engine. My local company ■■■■■■■■■■ MS got their first Lodekkas in 1954 with 6LWs to oust very good looking Leyland Titan PD2-12s with Leyland lowbridge bodies which were held in high regard for reliability and performance the general opinion of drivers being that the Bristols would never be as reliable or last as long but they did. Later ■■■■■■■■■■ Lodekkas had 6LXs and Leyland 600s fitted as had many RE type rear engined single deckers.
Cheers Leyland 600
