Past Present and in Between in Pictures (Part 1)

Keep the pics coming cck. I think they are a very good mix of photo’s of working lorries out on the road, which I like to see.
Cheers Dave.

Apologies if this has been seen before, but here,s one from the past.

Don’t be disheartened posters! Everything you post is greatly appreciated though I’s love to know how you sandwiched that artic tractor into the trailer!!

1A couple night shots of Southampton container berths, cheers Buzzer.

Nice shots Buzzer but i think i would have found another thread for them not a truck in sight, this tread was titled by Oily Past present & in Between Pictures a very good one too, if you don’t like them
just Buzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz TF right through them i don’t give a [zb] mate you can Buzz off end of.

Obviously CCK you are one who does not take criticism laying down and you seem offended by my comments, you also seem to have plenty of support for your posts on this thread. I thought I was polite in the way I made my observations and the way it was put into words with out resorting to the use of fowl language to get my point across. Now I consider myself reprimanded and again apologise to you for any misunderstanding, wont be posting any more pictures of container docks because they have nothing to do with road transport whatsoever, I’ll just climb back in my shell and “Buzz Off” as you suggest and should I wish to put any pics up on this thread I’ll run them by you first to get your thumbs up, Buzzer

Buzzer, there’s enough ■■■■■■■■ & falling out on other threads on this site, i am one who never throws the first punch but boy i will stand my corner, a PM to me would have been much politer, I do sincerely apologise for throwing the punches back, Hope you can be like me forgive & forget and carry on, Cheers Mel CCK

CCK quite agree and in the interest of our fellow friends who love this thread its good that we can have mutual respect for each other, in hind sight may be I should have done as you said and sent a PM but what is done we cannot change. Just to prove no hard feelings here is a pic i found the other day, not modern and looks like an Albion but i suspect some one will know if it is and what that cab is all about, cheers Buzzer.

Does anyone know who the original owner was of the early 1950s Foden six wheeler GRY683.?..that’s a Leicester registration

That’s an Albion Caledonian, cab was built by Miles, who also built fire engines, usually on Commer/Karrier or Bedford chassis, they had a similar front panel and grille. The standard cab on a Caledonian was the same as a “mouth-organ” Octopus, but with a bit less bright trim.

Buzzer has a fair and reasonable point. This is just about the best thread on the forum and needs variety, a bit of motorway traffic is ok, but CCK’s efforts, good as they are, can get a bit tiring.
Just my opinion. No wars.

Personally I love all these pics. Trucks, buses, ports, depots, warehouses. Why ever not?

Guys are putting in a lot of time and effort. Don’t knock them!

Foden S18 FE6/12 Two Stroke,Flat-bodied,6x4 Lorry,GRY 683,Tony Knowles.

According to my information, this Foden lorry was originally operated by the British Ministry of Defence for transporting ammunition,it was one of a batch of eight and all had dropside bodies.
GRY 683 is a January to May 1950 Leicester registration, and was apparently on a Foden DG6/12 6-Wheeler Fairground Lorry - almost certainly a World War Two
ex-military lorry.
Mick Whittle,of the Liecester area,has a Foden S21 Spaceship Sputnik 4AE6/32 Two Stroke 4x2 Showmans Ballast Diesel Road Locomotive,SPP 564D,TWO STROKE,in
Whittle’s State Fair livery of blue with red and white livery.
Mick Whittle,or somebody, must have restored GRY 683 and registered this lorry GRY 683 and painted it in a similar blue and red livery:-

Mick Whittle must have sold GRY 683 to Tony Knowles of Knowles Transport in around 1987:-

But is this Foden S18 FE6/12 Two Stroke Lorry,GRY 683,still owned by Tony Knowles? He is known for keeping his historic lorries, not for selling them…unlike some other commercial vehicle enthusiasts-collectors.
This is the latest DVLA information:-

VALKYRIE

This was on a TV programme. Shame about the quality.

Probably not a lot of help but it was Restored by Mick Whittle from near Leicester and first appeared in a pale blue livery at a small lorry show at John Pearsons in Coventry. This I believe was its only appearance in that livery before it passed to Tony Knowles. I have a picture on my flickr site and will post a link soon.

I have this down as taken in 1987. If you bring this up you should be able to see it in Knowles livery on the next picture left

Hello VALKYRIE
i drove a Foden 6x4 from brand spanking new for the STEETLEY TRANSPORT group based at Shireoaks in Worksop. the reg no being A606YWE, it was fitted with a ■■■■■■■ 320 not a bad tool and was just wondering if it went into preservation anywhere or just rotted away.
Hope you might be able to help, Regards Mick

Hi Kevmac, Good to hear Jim W is still around and well, does he still take part in organising the Tyne Tees Rally and get to drive his beloved Albion,? I remember the wagon delivering down on Newcastle Quay back in the early 1960s and got to know him at rallys in the mid 1970s, he told me that Powells were connected to the Old Jam Works here in Wigton in the 1930s. I had meant to attend the TT on Sunday but unforseen circumstances prevented this.
Cheers, Leyland 600

Thank you very much for your help Wayne Robinson
