Biddulph Bypass Opening - Oct 2003

My Great Uncle Fred Haydon in a 1929 Albion

Judging by the age of these 3 wagons this photograph could have been taken in the early 1960s ,.......... ............but it was actually taken at Easter this year , during the road run` at Kirkby Stephen.
The Albion , Atkinson , and the E.R.F. have all graced the pages of TNUK over the last few years , albeit at different times.

Cheers , cattle wagon man.

Evening all, hello Pete…

I try not to go into Wolverhampton very often…(I just get depressed)! How long ago did the canopy disappear? Do`nt those cobbles look harmless when they are dry…blooming different when they are wet!!

Yes, you are right, the twin screens do look better…but that is a lovely lorry, just enjoy her as she is!

Cheerio for now.

Hi Buzzer I have spent some time in there over the years in the 60s & 70s we would come down from Sheffield to take large bits off the private jetty there and take them to the site ( all internal ) one piece was over 200 tons and we moved on a 8 row trailer rated at 160 tons but it was not very far and they had dug the road out to get under the pipe lines as it was over 20 feet in diameter so just over 23 on the trailer, it was usually several bits when we went down so could be there for a couple of weeks or so at a time.
cheers Johnnie

Hi Johnie, I did the ISR rubber out of there two trucks on each doing two loads a day up to Yatesbury and knew every bump in the road, that was in the early 80’s.of course it was rope and sheet job then mainly because of the weight but in the end Specialist Freight Movements who did a lot had light weight tautliners built for the job. We also loaded odd trailers for export as well from there, cheers Buzzer.

Buzzer when I left Pickfords I went onto Tankers for Sykes all Crusaders then and used to load latex out of ISR , we also ran a cynide in but you ran back empty as it was a dedicated tank, we got the job after a Humber McVeigh driver was killed as he had tipped on a really bad day and he had put the safety suit in his cab and with the heater on the fumes got him just down the road and when Sykes had the job we had a box on the catwalk for all the safety equipment and it must have been a good rate as I earned a good few shillings doing it.
cheers Johnnie
