Hi Saviem, I remember riding past Dee Valley Transport’s yard in 1960 while accompanying my mate delivering mattresses from a factory in ■■■■■■■ and seeing the Foden “Lily of the Valley” standing in the yard a beautiful looking wagon. In 1967 I acquired a S21 cabbed eight wheeler flat with 6LW Gardner and 12 speed box which I used on general haulage A good reliable wagon a wee bit slow but would climb telegraph poles but as you say the worm diffs and hub oil seals were the main source of trouble. The cab like an icebox in winter and a greenhouse in summer.
Cheers Leyland 600.
An old one for CWM to identify, Buzzer.
Right-ho , “Buzzer” !
Austin K4 , 5 tonner ( I think ) and dating around early 1950`s.
I am sure only petrol engines were fitted , but someone might correct me.
My father owned a petrol-engined K2 3 tonner around that period.
Not a clue as to the bodybuilder , but in those days the local village joiners shops and blacksmiths worked together
on the respective woodworking and metalwork construction. All would be made to the hauliers` own specification.
The higher-than-usual dimension possibly also meant for transporting (farm) horses , as many were then still used on the land.
With hinged ventilation flaps for both decks , other bulky goods (like furniture) could be carried without damage from rain ingress.
Hope this is of help.
Cheers , cattle wagon man.
I remember when my old chap sent this 8-year-old to creep precariously along the side of the livestock body opening the ventilators. Until a cow decided to “unload” right in my face!

I think you’re probably correct, Les! I can still remember the feel and the taste after all these years.

Any one know where this truck hail’s from and has it a lady owner, Buzzer.
There’s a bit about the firm here but no answer to your question about a lady. They are from West Lothian.

Another Alan Spillett Dee Valley 8wheeler painting
Thanks for the portrait-painting of the beautiful Atkinson :-
Atkinson L1586A,Bowfront-cabbed,AEC* 9.6 or AEC* 11.3 diesel-engined,Dropside-bodied,8x2 or 8x4 Lorry,KUN 570,THE PRIDE OF THE VALE,Dee Valley Transport,registered in Denbighshire,Wales,April-July 1954.
*A good many Atkinson lorries of this era were fitted with the superior (in terms of power and speed) AEC engines, which does not mean to say that this particular Atkinson was so-powered,but it’s just a reminder to motor vehicle enthusiasts that Atkinson also built their great reputation with AEC engines,Rolls-Royce engines and, later on,with ■■■■■■■ engines

A couple of scans from an old book I’ve got on Fairground & Circus Transport. I particularly like the Foden 8 legger on full lock with trailer - probably took about 10 minutes to pull away - apparently a 1958 snapped in 1972Nice Scammells too

Billy Nichols & Sons. Dodgems. Billy Nichols also operated RCA 774,sister Foden to
RCA 773,and hauled the Hurricane Jets Ride.
Both Foden’s were new to Dee Valley Transport,Llangollen,Denbighshire,Wales, which gave
it’s haulage lorry fleet individual and picturesque names:RCA 774 could have been

RCA 773,LILY OF THE VALLEY,and here is a beautiful portrait-painting of this Foden when it

Thank for your interesting reply Saviem
Anyway,I did a reconnaissance mission on the Internet searching for any other illustrations-photographs of the above Foden S20 FG6/24 Eight-Wheeler Lorry,RCA 773,THE LILLY OF THE VALLEY,of Dee Valley Transport, and I came across a photograph of the real thing!
Strangely, it’s from the following FINISHED EBay UK auction sale from last year!
…it’s still currently on EBay UK:-

This sale finished on Friday,11th October,2013,so why hasn’t it been deleted? Anyway, here is the superb Peter Davies photograph, albeit complete with Peter Davies Photograph Copyright letters across it!
- but it’s still a great photograph

I don’t know what it is but I’m sure someone will!
Very evocative picture! It’s a Merc: I think they were called LS, and were made in the very late '50s and early '60s - someone will improve on this info with any luck. I saw quite a few still on the road in Syria when I was driving down that way. Here’s a pic I took of Syrian one in Dubai in '88. Robert

Hi “Oiltreader” ,
Many thanks for the very interesting additional information.
I thought that the pictured Austin had the later design (post W.W.W. 2 ) radiator grille , which is why I believed it to be
of the late 1940s/early 1950
