01Hi Eddie, Colin Bateman’s Atkinson L745 was also painted in pseudo London Scottish livery when owned by Arthur Ramage, there is a good chance that Tommy painted that one also. Here is a photo of the Atki when it arrived in ■■■■■■■ for further restoration and on completion.
Cheers Leyland 600

How many guesses do I get L600 as to the location of the low-loader shot  ,and for a bonus point I’ll have a guess at what is parked next to it with the polythene wrapping.   Cheers Bewick.

Im sure you will get it one Dennis, Regards Larry.

cattle wagon man:
A newer Leyland this time , but not built for travelling on the roads.

How many of you can remember the T.V. advert for Smiths Scampi Fries? The advert showed a Leyland Roadrunner boxvan being driven out of the sea . It was carrying a newly-caught consignment of scampi . Nowtfishy` :unamused:  in that ,…but a good gimmick at the time.

This is the actual “vehicle” . it is a half-scale model , specially built for the filming of the advert.

It now resides on display at the British Commercial Vehicle Museum at Leyland.

Cheers , cattle wagon man.

The actual (real) Roadrunner used in the filming belonged to BRS Rental - I hired it one day, and the guy at BRS Burnley was very proud to point out the Scampi Fries livery remaining in the door shuts. I didn’t like to tell him that I’d no idea what he was talking about, because I’d never seen the advert! It was B135 SNB, and I still have the tacho card for that day, somewhere

Hi Oily, The Carlisle registered ERF 54G brochure is a revelation. I think the initial is a W for Walter not a K, if I am right I would say that the wagon belonged to Walter Colquohoun who I vaguely knew and later became a coach operator with only one or two coaches. I had no idea that he had ever been a haulier, the ERF would probably have been supplied by County Motors Ltd Carlisle which became Eden Commercials a few years later.Trouble is there is no one around to verify my opinion. I must be an old bxxxxr !!
Here is a photo taken circa 1958/9 when the Spadeadam Rocket Testing Station and Chapelcross Nuclear power station were under construction when there were a number of old buses run by local operators conveying construction workers to the sites. This photo clip shows Walter Colquohouns Bedford OB alongside an ex SMT Leyland Cheetah belonging to Sowerby’s of Gilsland.

Hi Bewick, No prizes for guessing where the unrestored Atkinson was photographed but your you could send your anwer written on a £20 note as to the location of the restored wagon photo. Clue. Between Flecky & Baggrah !!
Cheers Leyland 600.

Hi Lawrence, that ERF registration number is bugging me too, it looks so familiar but I cannot say who the owner was, my initial thoughts were Smiles of Blucher but you would know about their fleet much better than anyone. What about the Co-op flour mill at Dunston, I remember them having some high radiator interim Leyland Beavers LTN ■■■ registered and possibly an ERF such as this twin steer.
Cheers Leyland 600.

Well it isn’t one of Smilers the only twin stears they had was in the late 30s & were comondered by the War Dept, Its possible it may have been one of Associated Lead motors (Cooksons), or as you say one of the Co-ops, Hopefully someone might remember who it was, Regards Larry.
