Those two geezers in the long black coats look like they could delivering a barrel of the “amber nectar” to Ponteland :open_mouth: Cheers Dennis.

Hi Oily, this two shades of green colour scheme appears to be popular in NZ. Here an owner driver parked by the roadside opposite his house near Stratford, Taranaki North Island in 2007. Also smart gold painted wagon and trailer at home near Palmerston, South Island NZ

Hi Oily, The AEC of Pilkingtons is a Regent or Regal bus chassis and was used for carrying large sheets of plate glass on special frames placed upright on the platform hence the lower chassis height. One of my former drivers who hailed from the St Helens area used to drive one.

Cheers Leyland 600

Hi Oily, I was looking for you on the Black Isle yesterday but I guess the rain put you off. Here are some pics on the A9 middle layby Culbokie. yesterday plus a load of straw at Tarrel, Portmahomack.

Cheers for that Dai
That stirs memories of school summer holidays working (1944ish onwards) on a farm and the “wages” were a day out in Aberdeen (35 miles distant) with spending money, going from the sticks to this metropolis was excitement indeed, an adults fistful of my jacket sleeve (holding hands was sissy  ) guiding me safely across the wide Union Street on our way to Woolies where in them days most things were a tanner or less. Trams, lorries, cars and still plenty horse drawn traffic as well, including Shore Porters, Wordies and others, carters with their leather aprons, horses with feedbags, all hustle and bustle compared to the backwaters.
Twelve years later I was part of it, a W Alexander and Sons bus driver, the horse drawn traffic had been retired for good. I had an uncle who started with LNER (Guild Street Station) as a carter, then a Mechanical Horse, the last wagon I remember him with was a Thornycroft Trusty.
Thanks for the memory as they say.

Cheers bumper for the pics  aye hardy beggars. I watched the CH5TV series when that started a year or two ago, but apart from Hugh Rowland and Alex Debogorski, the others peed me off, also the overstated voice over drama and computer generated pitfalls ahead, all a bit contrived IMHO, so havn’t watched it since. A skilled driving job not without risk, but less of a documentary and more of a wider audience grabbing programme.
Oily

Scanias from Stellendam Truck Show in Holland with thanks to Royvanwijk.

I was tipping in Scot Street in Hull to-day & saw this very tidy Volvo Rigg waiting to load opposite to where is was tipping, The photo is with the drivers consent, Regards Larry.

I believe that ADB hauled out of Carrs in later years, would this be after they finished on the Livestock,I seem to recall William calling on us in Milnthorpe in the mid '70’s and IIRC he’d been delivering for Carrs somewhere down Lancashire.Cheers Bewick.
