My great aunt was personal secretary the Gardner Hughie i think , I don,t know if this is well know but when he bought a brand new Jag in the 50/60s I, not sure of the years , they took it straight into the garage took the Jag engine out and fitted a Gardner engine in the when the cars was sold years later put the Jag engine back . My Great Aunt only ever worked for Gardner and when see retired as I said was one of the Gardners personal secretary. She lived on Peel green rD which was only walking distance from the factory

Cheers Dai, his first venture into engineering was actually making sewing machines, so attention to precision would have been the order of the day and proved with his diesel engine.
