It was a global advertising campaign, Buzzer. The idea was to hang the tiger tail to the filler neck.

I thought ESSO was the trade mark of USA company Standard Oil, am I right, Buzzer

Esso began its life in the UK in 1888 as the Anglo-American Oil company, and in 1890 Rockefeller and a group of ship merchants in Bremen created the Deutsch-Amerikanische Petroleum-Gesellschaft (DAPG) as a joint venture, which became our first affiliate company in Germany.

You are quite right Buzzer "ESSO — is a mock up of SO " and when the anti trust law in America broke up Rockafella’s Standard Oil conglomerate into about 4 or 5 separate companies IIRC ESSO became Standard Oil of New Jersey which was the largest part of the former Standard Oil.
I can’t just recall the names of the other Oil cos. that had been part of Standard Oil but one I believe was Chevron and they were all large companies even after the breakup of Standard. Cheers Bewick.

If you google Standard Oil of new Jersey there is a family tree showing how all the various oil cos. were created at the break up of Standard Oil and Esso figures front and centre in the chart. Cheers Bewick.

Sunbeam Rapier my last car in the UK

Sunbeam Rapier my last car in the UK

Wonderful car, when I had a spell of selling 2nd hand cars one of the ways we tried to squeeze extra money out of the job was to sell cars on our lot for other people. A local businessman entrusted us with his Rapier, another a Jag and yet a 3rd a Triumph Bonneville. Funny thing, there was often someone visitng my home who needed the machine taken there in the evenings for a demo. :unamused:

The neighbours thought we were very successful.

Thanks Dig, I was thinking Seattle cabbed Peterbuilt, but the grill and wipers didn’t look right. I didn’t know we got Hayes here.
