well he certainly went to town on it, air horns and western mirrors as well.
From my memories of the Ford 400E, the earlier ones had the 1704cc petrol engine, similar to, or the same as
in Ford Consul cars, and a 3 speed column change gear lever. I seem to remember that some of the later ones
had a diesel engine and a 4 speed gearbox. Was the diesel engine a Perkins 4/99 ■■. Cheers. Ray Smyth.

The Consul engine was 1703cc and a low compression version was used in the 400E. The diesel was the 4/99 and was hopelessly gutless in this installation. The gearboxes were indeed as stated.

The Thames 15-cwt I drove in 1972 was an elderly 12-seater mini-bus. It had 4-speed column-change, was fairly sluggish and when the wiring loom caught fire I had to abandon ship with at least 16child passengers! End of. They gave me Commer 15-cwt mini-bus after that.
