Here you are Dennis 150G in her, would have been a goer in her day ! What box would she have had ? Gross 20T ?2

Both ‘B’ and ‘D’ reg Invincibles i drove had the long door…

Bet you were glad about that P, Did you rate them? What engines n boxes ? Cracking pictures mind ! Cheers coomsey

Sadly Coomsey, i did not rate them. They both had Gardner 6LXs, David Brown 6 speed constant mesh boxes.
On paper they would have climbed a tree, but unfortunately both where single drive with a dead trailing axle.
For Peak District haulage they where in my opinion a dead loss. They struggled to climb up into Ashwood Dale
Quarry in the damp, let alone snow or ice. On more than one occasion i ran up to Buxton with several bucket
loads of snow over the rear axles in a effort to get some grip.
Neither was fitted with shock absorbers so the ride unladen was grim, loaded was ok.
The brakes where wishful thinking, heavy braking empty caused the axles to jump like startled rabbits, loaded,?
well i did a lot of praying …
The brakes on the one in the colour pic EVP, went on strike, Easter Sat, 1969, descending the hill into Ashbourne.
I used the solid wall by the church to stop her. The engines gave no trouble, as you would expect from Gardners.
Both gear boxes began to jump out of 3rd, oh, and the lovely curved windscreens would shatter for the fun of it.
They looked good though, squat, tough and brutal, oh, and the 4 headlight system was great.
Never judge a book by its cover eh. Keep safe.

Bit of an eye opener there P. thanks for that. My first lorry was a 8whlr S21 with 150g 679 BAY , now I rated her ,if only she’d have kept me warm ! She was still earning her corn in 85 not many Guys would have managed that I bet ?

One for Buzzer
Dig

Great photo of the Darlows Volvo Buzzer, they were quite a nice colour with red paint and gold sign writing, I think they moved from Sandy up to Peterborough but couldn’t swear that, their original yard was on the side of the A1 just south of the Sandy roundabout. I’ll pop the photo on the Bedfordshire thread.

Congratulations on reaching 800 pages Oily an enjoyable thread.
