Past Present and in Between in Pictures (Part 1)

An old friend of mine from CPS Gateshead moved to Sanqhar, he bought the fish and chip shop, he also worked for Yates for a while before his very serious illness. His name is Paul France, I was asking the driver of the vehicle I photographed if he was still around, and apparently he was in Yates yard recently. I hope he sees this thread. regards Kevmac47.

Can I take it Larry that the driver kept it in the pristine order that it came out the paint shop in ? Cheers Dennis.

Well Dennis we bought it off Selby Morton from Wooler, It was originally owned by some firm in Sunderland hence the Sunderland reg, It had a 265 Roller in it, Our Nigel uprated it to a 290, It was a good old motor, served us well, the only problems we had was the rear hub oilseals, But we did eventualy cure that when we Fitted Stemco seals, It ended up at Hartlepool hauling coal when we sold it & repaced it with the Leyland Roadtrain with the 300 T Perkins Roller engine, Regards Larry.

Aye Larry, those bloody Seddon Group axles were a nightmare behind anything with more than a Gardner 180 LXB,we had no probs with 180’s but in the odd ■■■■■■■ Borderers and the 8LXB Sed/Atks they were ■■■■■ !! We were lucky to get 70,000 miles out of the Hub reductions,I soon went on to speccing the Eaton axle which cured the problem. Our last two Sed/Atks had the Rockwell axle which were trouble free as well.Cheers Dennis.

Kevmac Just where I took the photo of Yates motor there is a cafe in the car park and I am sure that is ran by the Partner/Wife of an ex CPS driver which would be the chap you are talking about I dont know him but sometimes see her opening up in the morning I will mention it to her. Eddie.

The Lawrence Dunbar livery is worth showing off. It has prompted me to see what else I can find, all entries welcome. Here’s a couple for starters.

Nice, VERY nice. a grand machine.

hi all,
seeing as oily mentioned liveries,it got me thinking…here’s a few,the first firm has to be my all time favourite livery ever :sunglasses: .what is it about the northern england and scottish motors?they put us welsh boys to shame  copied from another thread,a peter j. davies picture,i think.
regards andrew.

when i was a kid,few welsh firms could match the classy livery of gwynne bowen from gorseinon :sunglasses: .

One of the Late Jeff Smiles Tippers, Driven by Eddy Smith, Regards Larry.

Good going from pete 359 and Lawrence Dunbar, I guess signwriting is a dying art, today’s wagon liveries I understand from chatting to a MacLeod driver with reference this motor the “signwriting” is computer generated and stuck on.

pic posted before, brought back to make a point.

Back to the real thing, the fine line detail tracing the panel shape like on the Seddons is the icing on the cake.
