Nor me, and a left ■■■■■■ at that. Where were they made?

Hi Spardo, good to see you back, I have recently been in touch with an Oz man, namely Phil Schubert, he now lives in Perth and Bindoon but early life up until 1982 his family were in Kimberley and his dad had a transport business , (some pics on page 75) he referred me to his pictures of Louisa Downs, late 60s, which would have been your time in the NT, here’s a taster, leading truck is a Hayes followed by an ERF.

Thanks Classicman, has a bit of a look of a Dennis I reckon but I suppose that Citroen used them as a basis for their own light trucks, of which there are still quite a lot knocking about in France.

Oily, I never really went away but I do lead a busy life and for some reason TN stopped sending me notifications of new posts in this thread and a couple of others. I didn’t think anything of it because some emails still arrive for some other threads.

Anyway, as usual, very interesting picture from West Oz. I never saw a Hayes in the Territory, most of the 8 leggers I saw were Fodens. Not sure about WA but in the Territory we didn’t seem to have much trouble with length, or come to that limits of any kind, so interesting to see that rabbit hutch sleeper that would have done any Atki owner proud at the time in the UK.

I ran into the northern part of WA around Wyndham and saw no regulation, apart from the requirement to park outside the town of Kunnanurra and walk the mile to the pub, so was surprised to read in a book loaned to me by Mike Ponsonby written by a contemporary of mine which included several contributions from a bloke I actually worked with at Buntines who mentioned log books, fights with WA cops, problems at the border and speeding  All I can say is that this man, Kevin Renehan, never mentioned anything like this at the time and I did ride with him on one trip. I expect time dimming the memory is the best explanation.

There is also an episode in the book where a truck turned over spilling cows out of the top and with some with their legs through the slatted sides. This probably happened more than once. Funny thing is that I witnessed an (almost) identical incident but Kevin attributes his story to the Boss’s motor tipping whereas it was Kevin’s motor, or at least his 3rd trailer, that came to grief when I was there. I had my own wagon by this time. I have described the incident in my own book and how we pulled him out with one wagon (the Boss, Buntine’s) towing ahead and another heading off into the bush with a tight lead on the trailer to pull it upright.

In fairness to Kevin, given the rough tracks, the unsteady control of wayward trailers and too many pills and booze to combat tiredness, this was not unusual and he probably thought that the Boss’s involvement was more amusing.

Bibs who is a member on here will be interested in the Bibbys Bedford because its one of his motors along with this Seddon.

The little Seddon is a grand motor, I think the looks could be improved if 4 of the badges on the grille were removed, 2 Perkins rings and 2 Atki.
Just my opinion, no offence to the owner.

Never a fan of bling myself I agree with all you say GOM, a credit to the owner nevertheless.

BTW, is that Fred Dibnah on the left, or just some old git telling a really fishy story? :unamused:
