Part Time Weekend Drivers

Its not a battle its a disagreement.

Knowing what JJ actually does for a living, I have to join the long list of people who are sitting back and sniggering at this…

I think since he reverted to essays on the finer points of warehouse design, we can consider this post done? as capt.mainwaring used to say “stupid boy”

Well, just for laughs and giggles what do you do for a living.

Not starting a flame, I’m actually intrigued now.

What point. The fact that not having a CPC has no bearing on the vast majority of logistics that I have worked on.

Edit: As a random aside I was approached by First Group to do some work with them. Had a chuckle thinking that I may lynched for not having a CPC Passenger but turns out its an IT project.

i wish i’d known you were posting at that time - i had trouble getting off to sleep as it happens :sunglasses:

Blimey, what have I started. :open_mouth: This thread had nicely gone to the back but I revived it cos I was looking for advice

Haha interesting discussion though

Yeah, I’d like to know this too.

I have a weekday job, so carrying 2 weeks full of blank tacho discs except for OW filled in seems a bit of a waste.

Incidentally, HELLO, have been a lurker for a while and have decided to pluck up the courage to post up. Have recently passed my C+E with Wallace and am looking for occasional weekends. (I’ve got a very rewarding full time job as a dentist so really its only to keep my hand in.) I’ve signed up to their affiliated agency but tbh although they weren’t too fussy about references cos I was a Wallace Trainee I’m not sure they’ll find anything, even on Class 2. Does anybody have any suggestions as to how to improve my chances? Lots of agencies seem to need firm references, at least according to their websites anyway.

I have Thursdays off and I reckon that if I can find the work I’m eligible to drive every other weekend to fulfil my weekly rest requirements. BTW, its slightly worrying when you seem to know the regs better than the agency guy :astonished:

Bumping this up the thread again, anybody know any answers to this? Or shall I buy my own box of blank tacho charts so I can fill in my OW bits/

On the assumption that you work 9-5ish in you main job you can certainly work every Thursday and one day of every other weekend. Alternatively you could keep Thursday as a rest day and work both days of every other weekend but you won’t be able to work a regular weekend shift e.g every Saturday*
You only need charts for OW for weeks you drive so if you only work every other Saturday you’ll only need to record that week from Monday-Sunday and can ignore the next week completely.
Don’t be surprised that you know more than the agency guy - they need to know enough to have an idea of their drivers availability but they’re sales reps, not drivers.

  • Ok, it is possible in theory to work every weekend by doing 02:00-12:00 Sat or 14:00-24:00 Sun but unlikely you’ll be able to organise that as most places expect you to be available for a 13 hour shift.

Thanks for that. At least tacho charts seem to be cheap enough to buy a job lot of. The second hurdle is getting the first foot in the door. With no work reference available its difficult to sign on with the bigger agencies. This one only took me on because I trained with Wallace and they said they’d get references from them. Still not had a phone call with a work offer though  I just hope that I don’t have to wait a full ‘two years’ before I get to drive a Class 1.

I’m still dying to know what jj72 does for a living now !!

Ady how come sometimes you act so dumb and ask daft questions and then do something as smart as tippexing an agency drivers name out for an overtime shift?
