Parking restriction Wetherby- A petition

So maybe we should be spending some of the UK HGV Levy, on improved facilities for HGV drivers?

Maybe you should ask your MP that

At least it will be a “ministerial submission” rather than a “treat officially”

You need to play the ‘game’

Ps if anyone is from the Stoke on trent area, please ask Robert Flello the local MP what truck parking is provided by the local city council and how THEY hope to improve it

Pls bang the response you get on here thanks :grimacing:

I’ve said this before on here but I will put it again, why should anyone provide parking for your truck if your boss want’s his truck out all night it’s up to him to find parking not taxpayers if not stay with day runs.

In this case though it’s not the taxpayer providing the parking, it’s simply drivers have found a place to park that has some facilities provided by a local social club, on an industrial area, with businesses that no doubt need trucks to deliver and collect goods so they can trade and therefore employ taxpayers.

As for the bosses paying for parking, ok in principle, but even if they pay the exorbitant rates charged by MSA’s it’s not always possible to get to one or even find a space if you do get there after a certain time. So it does need some government intervention, and maybe that should be parking areas on the large industrial areas, after all they require road transport for their very existence. If these parking areas had some decent facilities then of course there could be a charge, but a realistic charge to cover maintenance and bin emptying, as for the old argument of vandalism and littering, many studies have shown that if a place is well maintained and clean it, vandalism and littering is reduced but if you leave damage and litter it seems to encourage more.

I know that not all transport companies work on day runs, but if a boss wants you to stay away maybe 5 nights a week he should be finding you somewhere to park somewhere with toilets and washing just like he provides for office staff he finds work for you so parking should be easy

I used to deliver at night on that industrial site and the amount of times there was three or four trucks to move that where blocking my access

I’ve haven’t said this on here before ( just so everyone knows in case it’s important )
Why is it up to you boss to find overnight parking, you are given £20 plus and trusted as a professional to find somewhere appropriate to park, do you expect the boss to insert your digi card in the morning and do your daily walk round check as well as that’s in the bosses interest too ?

madmackem:
Signed. The council up there seem yo have it in for us at the moment. The amount of lay-bys there have closed on the A1 is unreal. Where do they expect us to park.

don’t councils have it in for hgv drivers/vehicles in general up and down the country, yet they bend over backwards for the travelling community, who don’t pay a penny in tax

You are given £20 night out money to give up your home life and live in a truck cab that is so small it would be banned if a prisoner had to live in it. You are not given £20 to pay for parking.
Your boss plans runs so you can pick up or drop off at planned times so why not plan parking as well.

You don’t actually drive commercially do you?

Actually, thinking about it, maybe you do. For a supermarket no doubt.

Up to last summer I drove for 15 years only 2 of them for a supermarket.

That’s about me now you tell me why they couldn’t plan parking

Really? I thought you were on a wind up at first, but it strikes me that you honestly can’t see the flaws in your plan! Ok, I’ll walk you through just a few shall I? Ok so driver “A” is planned to deliver at B,C and D and maybe reload at E, so the boss says "well you will be at point F tonight so I’ll arrange parking for you there. All good so far, but then reload point E then say that the stuff will not be ready until the morning. Does the driver then drive to the pre arranged parking and then drive back to point E in the morning? Are you with me so far?

How about a different scenario wherein everything goes slicker than a slick thing and the driver reaches the pre arranged ■■■■■■■■■■■■ 5 hours earlier than expected, do you propose he should park his £100k+ tool up 5 hours earlier “'cos a bloke off Trucknet says”? Or do you think he should crack on for the next five hours?

I can’t believe I’ve had to type all that most basic stuff, but I’ll gladly help you with sucking eggs as my next trick if you like!

How often do people get ticketed by the police for parking overnight without lights and/or on the pavement on industrial estates?

signed… good luck.
wish there was something to sign regarding ransomes industrial estate in ipswich too?!?!!!

You are right about the first bit, I aint paying out of my n/o money for parking unless I get it back ( which I do) I reckon Mr R143 is being taken for a ■■■■ by his boss.

The second bit however, please no…too many drivers are just about being ‘planned’ where and when to wipe their arses nowadays, I can plan where to park where it suits me thank you very much.

Signed.

Petition · Amend Parking Restrictions on Sandbeck Way, Wetherby, West Yorkshire · Change.org

Recent parking restrictions on Sandbeck Industrial Estate have seriously affected HGV Drivers in the area for options re affordable parking . These restrictions have been imposed recently and drivers that have used the area for overnight parking are now struggling to find alternatives. As this is primarily an Industrial Estate as opposed to a residential Estate we feel that the restrictions for night time parking are unnecessary and feel that a compromise can be reached regarding allowing parking for HGV Drivers.

We here at Wetherby & District Social Club have always supported the HGV Drivers as we recognise their contribution to the economy in providing deliveries and collections is crucial.A HGV Drivers life can be a solitary one and so we provide Drivers with a safe place to park , a place to get hot food and a warm place to rest up and socialise after a day on the road

park else where then.

del949:
but banning from there simply moves the issue to another place, it doesn’t cure the problem.
Agreed some drivers are their own worst enemies but for every dirty scrote, there will be a dozen clean decent guys who need somewhere to park.

you park else where do what you got to do and job done as you have always done,
