Recent parking restrictions on Sandbeck Industrial Estate have seriously affected HGV Drivers in the area for options re affordable parking . These restrictions have been imposed recently and drivers that have used the area for overnight parking are now struggling to find alternatives. As this is primarily an Industrial Estate as opposed to a residential Estate we feel that the restrictions for night time parking are unnecessary and feel that a compromise can be reached regarding allowing parking for HGV Drivers.
We here at Wetherby & District Social Club have always supported the HGV Drivers as we recognise their contribution to the economy in providing deliveries and collections is crucial.A HGV Drivers life can be a solitary one and so we provide Drivers with a safe place to park , a place to get hot food and a warm place to rest up and socialise after a day on the road
retired now but signed anyway.
good luck with it.
Signed.
Even though I no longer am able to drive a truck

but banning from there simply moves the issue to another place, it doesn’t cure the problem.
Agreed some drivers are their own worst enemies but for every dirty scrote, there will be a dozen clean decent guys who need somewhere to park.
In general: Folk moan about truckers leaving mess which is correct but if they actually provided some bins around the country AND (key point) emptied them where they do then there wouldn’t be half as much litter! - it works both ways.

Who should pay for it the local taxpayers ? or the truckpark which cannot continue to operate because some truck drivers (& possibly some of their companies) do not want to pay for it.
Things like this are the tip of a very large iceberg. Wouldn’t be such a problem if we had affordable truck parking, but with the prices land owners charge, and extortionate business rates set by local government and trade waste disposal firms, it’s an ongoing problem
I have always admired the way the French have free parking areas every 20 Kms on the motorways, some are fuel stops some are just basic toilet and wash facilities with ample parking and in most cases somewhere to stretch your legs after a long day sat behind the wheel.
Signed. The council up there seem yo have it in for us at the moment. The amount of lay-bys there have closed on the A1 is unreal. Where do they expect us to park.
I parked on the estate by running out of driving/duty time, and never knew about the social club on the industrial estate.
By the time I arrived, the roads on the estate were full up with wagons.
I managed to find a spot on a lit up residential road on the edge of the estate.
The social club is brilliant, hot meals from about four quid, nice ales and friendly welcome to all drivers.
There is classes and dancing events for the locals.
I never saw wagons blocking off units or entrances, but if they did, I would imagine that a confrontation would occur, with the driver saying no movement until his daily rest has ended, with no digi card in, you can move a few feet then do a printout.
If trucks are banned , it would be a shame, these gems are full of character, drivers having a chat and banter after a long day at the wheel.
Who likes parking in a money grabbing, sterile and soul less Msa that stinks of stale urine ?

Why shouldn’t the cost of bins come out of the local tax? The trucks are delivering to local businesses who pay business rates and employ local people who pay the community charge. It amazes me why large industrial areas are allowed to be build without an overnight parking area and in many cases trucks getting moved on to try and squeeze into over used laybys without any access to basic facilities or services areas who’s owners don’t really want large large taking up space that could be more profitable if used by coaches and cars.

The French motorway facilities do put the UK’s to shame, but remember you’ve already paid for them and their continual maintenance by paying the toll.

Why would that stop you signing?
For every 1 arse hole among us like that, who gives us all a bad name, there are 10 normal decent drivers, so why let them win.

So maybe we should be spending some of the UK HGV Levy, on improved facilities for HGV drivers?
