Yes or No. I know most people do it, and if the lay-by is narrow and no reservation it’s necessary, but in lay-bys with a reservation what’s the point? The times I’ve done it I’ve ended up sliding down the bunk in my sleeping bag which gives a great nights kip.
Depends on the camber.
And I never stop in a ‘lay-by’ without a substantial devider between road and lay-by…
Be careful, the path up the side of the layby might be a cycle path, and if you block it off, you’ll get many thumps on your door from irate cyclists.
I did it once, but I’d rather p*ss off a few cyclists than get swiped by a motor.
Some laybys are so narrow that lorries passing those already parked either have to drive up the center divide, or the one already parked might prefer to edge it onto the kerb and lessen the chances of getting nudged in the night.
I don’t do nights out any more and the only time i layby’d it on major road was when close to home (so in me own bed, say no more), but if i had to layby it overnight now i’d nudge it up on the kerb, preferably with the tractor turned in, to offer slightly more protection from an asleep night pilot.
I have to have had some unplanned unforeseen problem before I’ll sleep in one. That night was a go slow at Tesco Lichfield, so I had to rough it on the A38. I’m assuming Toyota must pay their staff a bonus for coming to work by bike (or they pay so crap that they can’t afford cars)
There are better places to park, and I don’t mean arm and a leg services. I have stayed on a services once in the last 6 months, and that was only because I was loaded, so had to pay for parking to keep my insurance cover. There was nowhere anywhere nearer that would have made it so I could have made the drop.
Laybys tend to be rammed with flip flops these days anyway.
I got approached recently in a Lay-by by a man looking like Kenny Everette asking me if i wanted to go into the bushes with him.
I said nah mate not my thing and he walked off
It made me wonder why cant i live in a world where i stop for a pee and a fit bird turns up out of nowhere looking for a quickie
Trucking ■■■■■ !
I have more of an issue with the tossers (usually foreigners) who park, sometimes for extended rest periods, completely blocking the entrance to the laybys with a reservation because when they got there it was full. Result being a short while later, there are several empty spaces no one can get into because of one selfish ■■■■. Not to mention other non-HGV traffic needing to access the layby maybe for genuine emergency.

Couldn’t agree more. Are the laws so bloody stringent in their countries that they can’t park, pull the card, and then move into a space when one is free?
If done right it shouldn’t even register on the head
However my biggest grumble is the totally brain dead numpties, usually in Hyundais or Kias, that park themselves smack bang in the middle of a ■■■■■■■■■■■■.
Google “dmrb layby specifications”
Lots of moaning going on as they are being shut down in some areas due to safety concerns but there’s a fair few stories about of people dying as they go under trucks and vice versa
Have to stop in a Layby to switch Fridge on as it has to be off from Dairy till other End of Town.
Often i leave the Carriage way and switch them on on the R/B above. When im down the Sliproad to join Traffik is Speed back to 50. But from the Layby i join Traffic with Speed of Nil and need a Kilometer to get them up to 50mph
Why do some truck drivers wind the legs down or drop the trailer (not necessarily a fridge) then move 6’ in front of it when they park up?

How when the unit is only parked a few feet from the headboard■■? Even a car couldn’t fit In Between…
Dropping the legs means the unit doesn’t rock and sway every time a vehicle goes by. At least it reduces it loads.

I’ve done this before if I thought there was a good chance some numpty in a car would park right against my bumper, leave just enough room to pull out once coupled back up. Normally on industrial estates rather than lay by’s though.

Even in a Volvo (which has the worst cab roll ever)lol
Only one question? What’s a curb Tris?
It’s what he does to his enthusiasm.
