Parking in lay-bys and going up the curb

It isn’t just cars that park in the middle, many lorries do this too. Either that or they will park at the entrance end of the layby rather than pulling forward to the exit end to enable another lorry to pull in behind.

I’m still a bit of a novice so reverse parallel parking in an artic is a significant challenge for me. I’ve never understood why people don’t pull forward to the front of the bay when there’s room.

You can’t move the truck when your on a break. I always give the benefit of the doubt to be honest & assume somebody was in front previously.

Posted in wrong threa. Again. …

Park as you would in a car if you didn’t want to be disturbed. If the layby ain’t big enough don’t park in it…

If the lorry parked in front of you leaves at 3am, do you awake and move your lorry forward?

You must be on the move constantly. Should work for Ralph Davies.

I got approached recently in a Lay-by by a man looking like Kenny Everette asking me if i wanted to go into the bushes with him.
I said nah mate not my thing and he walked off
It made me wonder why cant i live in a world where i stop for a pee and a fit bird turns up out of nowhere looking for a quickie
Trucking ■■■■■ !

Kenny Everett! You made me laugh with that one, I can’t the image out of my head! Was it Marcel Wave “Allo my leeetle trucker shum, ow about some bum fun in zeez bushes?” Or Cupid Stunts “Then all my clothes fell off”
All good fun
Now if Cleo Rochos asked if you’d like to come into the bushes I suspect the reaction would have been somewhat different
She’d still get it, even after all these years, sexist comments aside

I do that if there’s another lorry already in the layby - My logic being that if I park up for a 45 minute break, anything else that arrived before me will probably move off before I do. So I will normally pull in behind then reverse right back. That way, when the other trucks that were already there move off 10,15 or more minutes later, almost the whole layby will be left unobstructed and it will actually be easier for later arrivals to get in. If the layby is empty when I arrive, then yes, I will drive right to the end - again so as to leave as much free space as possible.

Yes same here, reversing the trailer overhang as far as possible over the verge/kerb so extends the layby by another few valuable feet.

Mind you aint some laybys with ridiclously long tapers and slip/exit roads tiny when you get in, 1/4 mile of layby and only room for about 3 lorries, talk about waste of space.

When I read the thread title I initially thought it was about some dodgy ■■■■■■ activities going on in laybys

Lol my reaction was the same, I read the title of the thread and for few seconds I thought “going up the kerb” was slang for some kind of unnatural ■■■ act.
Then Kenny Everett rocked up and it took on a life of it’s own!
