Parking Ethics Query

I am looking at buying an ex Library Bus 7.5t , 25ft long, for private non commercial use - convert to a Motorhome.

I live on a nice estate, and frankly don’t want to ■■■■ off the people who live in the area, I have seen a couple of suitable parking spaces around the corner from me ( I literally cannot park it outside my house as the road is too narrow), the space previously has housed a similar sized Hymer Motorhome with no issues and not got in anyone’s way.

So ethically I cannot see a problem, it doesn’t block anyone’s access to or from a driveway, it is not in the immediate view from someone’s front windows etc, and vehicles can pass with no more effort than they would require to pass a car which was parked there, all that said I thought I might just run it past a bunch of volatile opinions and see what kind of thoughts others had ? And of course if anyone knows a legal reason which could prove a problem ? It is a little closer to the corner than I would like, but it can be parked there with no hassle, I use that junction myself as I live up that road on the right in the pic…excuse my artists impression of a poorly drawn 7.5 tonner , gives some impression to what I am talking about.

See how hot the flak jacket gets with this one… :stuck_out_tongue:

I live in that house with the conservatory!! You blinking well better not park that postman pat heap next to my house if your drawings anything to go off.

Give you something more interesting to look at than just the brick wall eh :smiling_imp:

I’d check with the council to see if any local bylaws prohibit vehicles over a certain weight limit, from parking in a residential area overnight.

Been there and done that. Check your tp1 (title deeds) newish estate ban the use of commerical vechicles (inc white vans) and anything over 1.5 tons

You think it looks ok if the law permits ? I am biased that is the problem

Will give the locals a call tomorrow and see about those by-laws tho thanks.

We have the commercial vehicle thing in the deeds, but this is not commercial ? and my road car is over 1.5t

If you have typical neighbours then it will be a problem because regardless of the fact they don’t have any right to that bit of tarmac outside their house, they won’t want anyone else parking on it. If it doesn’t get damaged/complaints to council/police etc then I will be amazed. You’re setting yourself up for a world of pain and aggro imho.

Yer, that is my fear as well LHD…there is storage pretty close by which I could use as a last resort, bit of a PITA tho, maybe I can speak with my local haulage yard, it is small enough to bury in their parking without causing issues I think, will give them a buzz tomorrow as well, I used to work with them so maybe they will be more accommodating.

It’s Christmas soon, if your ex employer does agree to you parking your vehicle in their yard, a few packs of beers or a nice Xmas hamper etc might keep them sweet for next year.

My first move would be to ask the neighbours with a picture of the thing.

No point messing about researching all the legal side of it, if once you’ve parked up you have people bleating that it’s an eyesore and ‘blocking their light’. I wouldn’t want that hassle regardless of whether it’s legal to park or not. If the neighbours aren’t bothered, i’d say the likelihood of any restrictions being enforced in an area like that without complaints is minimal.

I almost guarantee at least one neighbour will moan about it.

I’ve got a motorhome & park it on the drive, but I know that there’s a condition on the deeds that states no caravans or mobile dwellings. No one has complained yet, but if they do I will just store it in a secure compound.
If you park it outside someone else’s property, 100 yards away from your house, I guarantee they will complain, you will be worrying all the time that it will get damaged.
I thought about asking my boss about parking it in the yard, then I held that thought when I remembered all the damage to trailers & rigids that miraculously occurs without anyone admiting it !

If the library bus still shows it on the v5 it still a commerical to the moment its changed to motorcaravan.

For the record i got a merc ex bus 24 seater jobby turned to camper. And can say what a flipping hassle it was. All it took was 1 person to have a moan.

Seeing that and driving round it would ■■■■ me of to the max that I’d have it removed over night !

+1

You need to find somewhere else to park your meth lab Mark.

That’s about 800 yards from my gaff Mark. Go for it.

If anyone gives you grief tell 'em the bloke off the internet says it’s ok.

Bloke round the corner from me parks his motorhome on double yellows,on a t-juction,blocking the no entry signs (meaning cars go the wrong way down the one way street coz they don’t know) and where the road narrows for traffic calming meaning traffic jams when the school is finishing. He get’s away with it so I think that means that motorhome owners can park anywhere.

So crack on

You’re a braver man than me if you go down this road.

Have you seen the way most lorry drivers, sorry, “truckers”, perform with lorries :open_mouth: . How long before Mr Nobody reverses into it??

Yep, i’d be cheesed off with it parked outside my gaff, and doubly cheesed off if i lived behind one of the three directly affected driveways.
