Parked up unit only

Do you keep the mid lift up or down when parked up overnight??

I know a few that drop it down as I do now,as when it’s up in the air it’s easier to steal.

Heard a story that some guy woke up one morning and both were gone :open_mouth: :open_mouth:

Tbh it’s something that has never occurred to me. It could be argued that a free turning lifted axle would be a bugger to steal as it’d keep spinning as they tried to crack the wheelnuts off.

I do however dump all the air and wind the legs down if it’s windy on a night (outside the cab, not inside  )

Steal what?
The truck?
The wheels?
The lift axil?

The wheels. No need to jack them up if its lifted.

Not something I had considered either.

How are they going to steal the wheels if they can’t (easily) undo the wheel nuts? If they stick a BFO breaker bar on it, the wheel will simply turn when they lean on it.

Thinking about it a bit further, they would (I assume) use two breaker bars.

Depends on the unit. Some axles are braked when the handbrake is applied and some are not.

some trucks use electricity to keep the axle up, so better to leave it down for the night

Which units? All I’ve ever seen are air operated ones. The only electricity needed is on the circuit the up/down switch operates.

they operate by air but a small current still runs through the activating circuit when it’s up, enough to kill an older battery over the weekend

I don’t care, not my motor…:grimacing:

+1

Best thing about parking up unit only, you can get out of the ■■■■ stained laybys and park right in the pub car park

Bet you can’t hum the theme tune
YouTube fame awaits…

Hum it? Pah! Getting on for 30 years ago I laboriously typed in several pages of BASIC computer code (the vast majority of it numeric DATA statements) just for the simple pleasure of getting my Sinclair Spectrum to play Axel F through its sound chip

Doubt a thief would be using a breaker bar to remove wheels in the 21st century. More like air / battery wrench

Are you a doctor? You seem to have plenty of patience…

Don’t bother, I’m already wearing my coat…
