Parked in lay by

I broke the habits of a lifetime last night, I parked o/night in a ■■■■ lay by.
Got to Lancaster at 34, came off and felt a pint coming on :sunglasses: …, but the road in was closed overnight for ■■■■ roadworks, so ended up turning right and in the ■■■■ lay by. :smiling_imp:

I don’t know how some of you use them every night ffs, I really don’t.
I couldn’t even get a decent pic on my telly, so was bored ■■■■ less, and when I did get to bed I was woke up every time a car stopped in case I was going to get my fuel ■■■■■■ robbed. :unamused:
It should be made illegal on h+s grounds, and proper parking should be demanded and expected as a matter of routine.

Not for me, would not last 5 mins if I had to do it every night, so that’s it for another 20 years. .

Slumming it then , I slept in the yard last night couldn’t be arsed t go home as had a 6 am start and didn’t get back till 9pm and I live 30 mins drive away

Lymm services for me. Hate the place, no food voucher and I had to £1 out of my own pocket for a shower. :imp:

Didn’t put the red interior lights on, curtains pulled back, and pose in yer singlet and Y-fronts to entice a fiend for the night? :smiling_imp:

Yeh I’ve seen me do that before, I also live 30 mile away, so unless I can work it to not get back, I’ve done the same, you get a longer kip and save an hours travel.

You obviously saw me, so why didn’t you stop.

At Beaconsfield, no room though as I’ve seen lots of wagons going round and round.

I don’t know why but i read the thread title as “Poked in a layby” I wasn’t knowing what to expect when I open it. lol

But getting on topic. As a young man I often over-nighted in laybys and always slept like a log, then one day someone told me how they could never get any sleep in a layby because of all the noise and buffeting as other vehicles passed, after being told that, I took notice how intrusive it all was, and have never been able to sleep in a layby since. If I had never been told that I wonder how long I would have continued undisturbed ?

I made the mistake of trying to sleep in a layby on the A14 near Bury St Edmonds. Worst decision ever. I thought it would quieten down after 10ish. Boy was I wrong!

I parked in Bury st Edmunds lorry park last night, I thought it seemed quiet, then I was told I had to £15 :open_mouth: , didn’t notice the 5’ high sign as I drove in, Still got a fiver of the meal

On account of all the carrot crunching??

Il do laybys as a last resort but can’t be doing with the buffering. If there’s a separation between the carriageway and layby its not so bad. Just got to angle the cab as much as possible.
Worst sleep I remember was a day sleep, 10am till 7pm on random A road down south in the middle of summer on a breezy day.

I sometimes think it is worse when the roads are quieter. During the day on a busy road when the traffic is constant then the noise and buffeting is constant, I would sleep reasonably well, but at night on a quiet road with lets say something passing every 15 minutes, then I would get no sleep. Sometimes car parks are worse if you get boy racers with stupidly loud exhausts doing skids till 2am.

Another good spot I found is by the Scania dealers in Burton near Boots and you’ve got morrisons a short walk away

I park in laybys all the time, ok they are mostly in the north of scotland where rush hour finishes 10 minutes after it starts , i sleep fine

Quiet Ind est or deep off the road laybyes is all I use never park in services but I do like the odd Truckstop now and again

Always very wary now of lay-bys!

Had headlights nicked on the A14!

Diesel done just off J11,M25, both within last 6 months.

Anyway the first Monday night back after Xmas, got badly stung on the A34 south from M40 heading for Romsey, was getting late, every man and his dog seemed out! Tot Hill and Sutton Scotney,no chance, getting tired now, just before the M3,last chance saloon,■■■■■■■ suicide layby as they say, zero sleep! Horrific! Anyway said it before bad planning then, but labys never again, industrial estate Newport Shropshire tonight.

Robroy, it’s a gutter skill to suss out the good laybys.
Single carriageway has to be a B road or below, dual has to have an island if all else fails drop the air and bang the earplugs in, oh and stress less
My worse night out was a desperation (hours) on the A66, found a layby that was empty (I found out why) uphill no island, all flippin night I heard v8’s knocking down a gear to get up the friggin Hill :imp:
I had ran out of little orange foam ear plugs

I’ll sleep anywhere day / night lay-bys services truck stops with or without a fridge it’s just a point of being snug
Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz oh night all

Parked on the A27 once during the day. Well I say slept. More like rocked from side to side for 6 hours.

This was with a divider too. Gotta be mad to park next to a live lane.
