I’m pretty confident someone will pick them up for a £1 after they have gone into receivership and cleared all there debts.

2,500 jobs lost as wholesaler Palmer & Harvey collapses into administration

I am not so sure. With Tesco taking the Premier chain of stores, (and Budgens), that is a big hole in what P+H deliver.

Yeah but that hasn’t gone ahead yet. You have shell, esso, McCall’s that will need stuff on their shelves. I can’t see who is going to do it.

Very badly run do not surprised though.

They might be a more attractive if can lose the debts and restructure to start again

That’s what they get for pushing in front of dozy

They are taking on though  ?

Has he been working his voodoo magic on his P&H doll?

Yes,

The whole business nearly came to a grinding halt over the summer with loads coming back, an ageing fleet & driver’s walking out made the perfect storm. Since then there seemed to be s real effort to change what could be changed and keep drivers. Salaries in kent for instance rose from £25k last August to 33k + 2k bonus.

Sadly the workload didn’t change so an impossible route is still an impossible route regardless of whether your getting an extra 10k a year to do it.

I wonder if i’ll Be getting paid at the end of the month!

A great family business since 1925, i hope they can be bought, just suffered a cash flow problem, like lots of companies, why do people have to wait so long to get paid, i mean, you cant do your shopping and say…ill pay ya next month..the same with these companies, thjey deliver the goods, they have paid for, then the likes of Tesco, Sainsburys, and the rest, say, thanks a lot, ill pay ya soon, long after the goods have left the shelves…its about time this practice was tightened up…make it a maximum of 2 weeks…but i guess its a game with the big supermarkets to make everyone wait for their money…even hauliers…who have to put up with long tedious deliveries…and everyone afraid to act, in case they lose the work…what a mess…

A tiny business getting involved with tobacco money and private equity only ends in the death of sed tiny business whose directors who thought they were big, got greedy, and discovered that their business is just pocket lint to the money men.

Not sure it’s soley a cash flow problem it’s a very low margin business that makes it very unattractive to potential investors

In all honesty I was working out the best place in London to park up the lorry and get the train home. It’s always been a dream of mine to do it but the thought of explaining it to my wife has always put me off.

I

Got my first days driving at P&H running out of Haydock Industrial Estate. Had a lot of respect for the full time drivers doing in 8 hours on there own what me and a drivers mate was doing in 12.
Always happy to help me out when given a different vehicle.

Job was grim as a bag of d**ks* though.

There we have the problem with business in this country summed up in a nutshell with those two statements. Basically it is just pure GREED from those who can well afford to operate in a manner which is for the benefit of more than just themselves.

Hmm, try parking outside the first major station you come across, lock the doors, toss the keys and wait to get picked up by the Anti terrorist squad. That should keep you amused for a few hours while the rest of Londonistan gridlocks and implodes in on itself in the surmise that it is a huge potential truckbomb !
Just dont do it Friday when I’m down in Lambeth please
