P&h going under

Hopefully someone will come in and save them. A lot of hard working people and their families could be left high and dry just weeks before Christmas.

Well, they’ve officially gone under with 2,500 immediate job losses. I’m not due in until the end of the week so have no idea whether the lorries will be leaving the yard tomorrow or not.

I only worked a few days a week for them so the impact on myself is relatively limited but I feel for those that have a family to support.

Hmm, try parking outside the first major station you come across, lock the doors, toss the keys and wait to get picked up by the Anti terrorist squad. That should keep you amused for a few hours while the rest of Londonistan gridlocks and implodes in on itself in the surmise that it is a huge potential truckbomb !
Just dont do it Friday when I’m down in Lambeth please

Have you seen the state of some of the lorries. It’s more likely the rag and bone man will take it away for scrap before the anti terror squad get to it

Fareham had a reasonable condition fleet , but that’s because they went in to London

I did a few weeks agency work for Palmer & Harvey out of their Nottingham depot, back in the mid-1980’s. It was a crap job even back then, ridiculously over-optimistic workloads, knackered old lorries (Ford D-series then) and chaotic warehouses. Stuck it for a short while because it wasn’t a particularly long commute, but i was glad when Clearways asked for me to go back to a run I’d done for them previously out of Glow-worm at Belper.

Worked at fareham, and by in large most of their fleet there was good, some old iveco’s but mostly mercs.
Drove in to my yard and they said “Just park up and go home, we’re bust” which is a shame, people may slag them off but I did enjoy my time there

Yes,

I’ll certainly miss some of the characters in the yard

Has this happened just before pay day for all the employees?

Oh certainly. Great people there and I feel sorry for them. I don’t have much to worry about finance wise but some do and its a shame.

Got my first days driving at P&H running out of Haydock Industrial Estate. Had a lot of respect for the full time drivers doing in 8 hours on there own what me and a drivers mate was doing in 12.
Always happy to help me out when given a different vehicle.

Job was grim as a bag of d**ks* though.

Yep, I was there too mate as you know.

Fly infested bag of bile. Good riddance to a crap company. (Feel for the drivers but couldn’t give a crap about the other staff).

It says in the article that Novembers pay will be honoured, but I take that with a pinch of salt tbh

Receivers will have already sold that to the local chippies mate

Ex-workmate at Fareham, taken on a wife and daughter in the last couple of years, would like to think he won’t be left short in the run up to Xmas.

He along with many others will have been contacting agencies today, good luck to them all in finding something to keep them going.

Reminds me of city link going bust @ XMAS
Shame the idiots who ran it into the ground won’t suffer just the guys being paid peanuts.

Won’t be just P&H at risk I’d imagine the central stores chain might be at risk aswell. They couldn’t of really ballsed this up anymore if they tried.
